Mercedes to drop Kompressor supercharger technology in favor of turbos
STUTTGART -- Mercedes-Benz will drop supercharged Kompressor gasoline-powered engines from its lineup in favor of turbochargers.
Mercedes will add a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine for the A Class subcompact that debuts in Europe this autumn.
"Turbochargers are superior to superchargers in terms of noise and cost," said Juergen Frey, head of engine development for the A class. "When we introduced the supercharged engines it was the right decision. Turbocharging has greatly improved in the meantime, and we have virtually no turbo lag anymore."

I just bought my 2005 C230 Sedan and one of the things that I liked about it was the fact that this engine has been around since 1997. I had it in my '98 SLK230 and I'm sure they've perfected it in all those years ( I can only hope, anyway).
Like all cars, the first model ALWAYS has it's quirks, like mine in '98, and since this C230 body and engine has been around for a while, for me and my peace of mind, it was the best bet.
Oh well, at least that's the way I see it.

2-3 years ? I remember reading somewhere that some/most of the 2002's has 2.3L engines.
and the 1.8L is going away next MY ?

so can anyone verify, that indeed the 1.8L engine is going away ?
Is that why so many TUNERS are staying away from 1.8L mods and kits ?
interesting developments....

But I don't think they're going to abandon the C230K's pricepoint at $30K. It'll just be replaced by a new C class with a slightly higher number, would be my guess.

most likely it will say Turbo rather than Kompressor if they are going that way. Just as the CL65 and SL65 say V12 Bi-Turbo on the fenders. If the new engine is Turbo it will more than likely say Turbo I would think.

Kompressor is Supercharger, thats why i said if the engines become turbo charged then they will more than likely say Turbo on the car. Just like the CL65 and SL65 say V12 Bi-Turbo.

New (E90) models will be shown at the Frankfurt Auto Show later this year, but from what I've seen, they look a lot worse than the outgoing ones (E46). I'm said to say it, because I love the way BMW has progressed with their styling over the years but that's the truth. The E90 won't be available in the US until next Fall at the earliest.
Audi is doing a revision of the A4, you should check it out. It will be available with the DSG transmission, which is amazing! And your wife will be happy with it as well.
