Mercedes-Benz Canada surpasses previous record month with its best month ever
Toronto, Ontario (May 1, 2002) - Mercedes-Benz Canada and its dealers reported another sales record in April 2002. A total of 1,443 units were retailed, for an increase of 19.6% over the previous year. The April result also surpassed the previous record set in March of this year by 8.9%.
Year-to-date sales, at 4,706 units, equalled a 25% increase over the same period in 2001. Of this total, passenger cars accounted for 3,643 units and 77.4% of the total while light trucks were represented with 1,063 units and 22.6%.
The April sales success was a result of strength across all model lines, but was supported in particular by the continued momentum of the C-Class which accounted for 552 units and 38.3% of volume, the S-Class with 95 units and the new SL of which 104 units were retailed. Sales of the new SL for the first two months were more than double the deliveries for the entire year 2001.
Stellar performances were also posted by the CLK and SLK convertibles as the spring selling season got underway. CLK sales amounted to 184 units for a gain of 64.3% over last year while SLK sales, at 83 units, were 15.3% ahead of 2001.
Finally, the M-Class rebounded in April with deliveries of 283 units, bringing the year-to-date result to 996 units and a small increase of 0.7% over the previous year.
“While Mercedes-Benz Canada has experienced continuous growth over the last several years, we rarely experience such significant milestones two months in a row”, said Ernst H. Lieb, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada. Mercedes-Benz Canada posts all-time record in March with 1,325 sales. Premium luxury models beat previous all-time record by 36%.
Toronto (April 1, 2002) – It is with great excitement and pride that Mercedes-Benz Canada and its dealers report the best retail month ever in the company’s history. A total of 1,325 units were delivered in March 2002, 324 units ahead of March 2001 or a gain of 32.4%. This exploit surpasses the previous record of 1,285 units delivered in May 2000. On a year-to-date basis, this strong performance brings the tally to 3,263 units, which represents an increase of 705 units or 27.6% against the first quarter of last year.
For the first three months of the year, passenger car sales reached 2,499 units for an increase of 33.5% while light truck sales, which include the M and G-Class, stood at 764 units, representing a gain of 11.4%.
This month’s success was not only underpinned by the entry-level C-Class but was also strongly supported by the exceptional performance of Mercedes-Benz’ premium luxury models. The S-Class and the new 2003 SL model accounted for 309 of this month’s sales: 123 S-Class sedans and coupes were retailed and the first month of sales for the spectacular new 2003 SL’s generated an unprecedented 186 units. These numbers exceeded the previous records achieved during the introduction of the S-Class in the fall of 2000 by an impressive 36%.
With an increase of 124.5% compared to the March 2001 result, the C-Class continued its momentum with 211 C-Class Coupes and 313 sedans. The CLK’s and SLK’s also performed well this month, with gains of 32% and 7%, respectively.
