Mirror housing

Need help! I came out of the grocery store a few minutes ago and drove away. I looked down and noticed that the display said "Turn signal, right mirror, check lights". I looked over and see that the mirror housing is hanging off!! U-turn back to the store to see if some a-hole parked beside me hit the mirror, but can't find any evidence. I looked at the housing and no signs of impact, no scratches, no broken or cracked plastic...nothing. But, I can't get it to fit snugly in place. The driver's side is on very tight so I can't take it off and compare. I'm an engineer, and I know designs of snaps, latches, etc. I can't seem to figure out how this housing attaches to the mirror assembly! Unless something is missing.......... It slides into place, the blinker lights all work (the connectors slide together ok). But the thing is just very loose. Does anyone have any helpful information? If I take it to the dealer, I'm sure they will say it was hit and not covered under warranty.

make sure the silver clip is pusjed out. the when you slide on the housing push it hard enough until the silver clip locks into place. the silver clip holds the housing on.

I'll check it out.....Thanks. I was looking at a silver clip on the back, but it seemed to be in place, not out-of-place. Hopefully that's what does the trick. Do these things come off that easily? There's literally no damage at all to the housing or the car.

Missing my beloved Benz
Park away from people in the lot and you won't have those problems! Get up and exercise, you can walk another 10 feet. LOL

no they dont come off that easily. you should read all the pst with people asking how the hell they come off. they are ususlly on there pretty good. ive taken mine off a couple times for the installation of the W211 indicators and the installation for my electronic folding mirrors.

All fixed!!! The clip was flush with its plastic mount, so I pried it away with a flathead and snapped the housing back in! Thanks for the help!!

And yes, I do park away from others. There was nobody there on either side when I parked. Just nothing you can do when parking in a public lot. But if I ever catch someone messing with my $60k car..........

dont pay any attention to him. he's like a little kid. we just make sure his helmet is on tight so he doesnt hurt himself, and make sure he has his drool cup so he doesnt stain his clothes.

glad you got it figured out. not hard once you know what to do.

i replased the bulbs in mine and when i did it the drivers side housing would not slide off, so i took the whole thing out and apart to get to the signal lights. I went to unbolt the passanger side and it sliped off pretty easy. I checked it out before putting it back on and pryed the silver clip out a little to make sure that the housing stayed clipped in as tight as possible.

LOL!!!! Oh ****, I almost did what Diamond did and spit all over my computer...

Jayitx, I totally agree with you. No matter how far you park or how good/far your parking is, you can't do anything in a public lot. Especially damn grocery stores with carts around.
When I first got my old w202. I parked it far away from everyone else in this grocery store in Gardena. The idiots at the store weren't rounding up their carts, and my 1 week old C280 got a big dent on it's side from a cart. When I went out and saw it, I went ape **** and started picking up the carts and throwing them across the parking lot... What did that get me? Nothing, just a lot of funny looks and I still had to pay $100 for paintless dent removal (it was good that they were able to take it out that easily).
