My '05 C320 has COMMAND and the $765 MOST telephone preparation factory option. The MB 710 telephone and cradle are due in several weeks.

When I press the TEL pushbutton on the COMMAND the display reads: "Phone not inserted".

When I select the telephone on the dash display it reads: "TEL No Phone".

It would be useful to know what a MY 05 COMMAND and dash displays when the vehicle does NOT have the $765 MOST option.

thats the same as my 03 says without the phone. also when i push the answer/hang up buttons on the steering wheel it says, function not available.

Thanks for the reply. I am interested in these messages on an '05, as the equipment is different from prior model years.

Also, the on hook / off hook buttons have no effect on eother screen, under any conditions, on my vehicle.

Didn't you get the hands free option? IMHO you would still need the rest regardless of what MY your car is. Therefore Doug's answer is correct and makes sense.

Yes, while I already have the factory-equipped MOST telephone interface, I also need the phone and cradle, which are on order.

My question is, what do the two displays show, on MY 05 COMMAND vehicles, when the MOST interface is present and when it is not present.

Yes, Doug provided a very good response. Thanks again. But, this equipment is different for '05, so it is not the answer I was looking to obtain.

sorry, i knew the 05's were MOST and 01-04 D2B, but i thought the messages might be the same. jut giving some comparisons.

When I examine the MBUSA web site I did not find voice control for the C-Class vehicle like is shown in your link.

FYI, my link changed to your link after posting. But, going to the veb site, voice control is NOT there.

Where are you getting this voice control prep story from? Its not listed on the website. Did a salesmonkey at the stealership tell you this?

The brochure lists as std: Factory preparation for optional cell phone using fiber optic network. And the MY 05s use MOST.

What does the $765 option include? (i.e., voice activation capability)? Since the C-class includes "cellphone prewiring" standard, do I still need this $765 package (plus the cradle, of course) to connect a MB cellphone to my car?

Yes, this is the MOST telephone interface. It converts voice back and forth to digital data to send it along the fiber optical ring to the audio head unit. It also communicates instructions, like on/off hook or numeric keypad actuation, to the phone across the FO link.

The indication is that voice control is now integrated into the telephone, unlike pre '05 vehicles where it was a separate $400 vehicle option. But, the first new MB phones won't ship for several weeks, so until then we won't know for sure.
