Oil low message again.......

Just wanted to aske if anyone experienced the same problem so here goes:

2K miles before my first A service the low oil level message came on and said I was missing 1.5qt of oil. I took the car to the dealership and they replaced my oil sensor. I had no problems ever since. Yesterday the message comes up again and this time
I'm 2k miles away from my B service (it's 1.5qt low again). I call up the service department and the guy tells me "you are probably a little low on oil". Has anyone else experienced this? Does this car (C230K) really eat up this much oil in 8K miles? I mean wtf.
I'm taking it in for service tomorrow so I'll be back for an update.

Peace.

I've got a C240, but I think I know of at least 2 people on this board with coupes that found they were almost 2 qts low after about 2500 miles. Seems that engine may use more oil than the V6's. It might be a good idea to do the computer oil check every couple weeks to keep tabs on the level instead of waiting for the warning to come up. Also, I think many or all the coupes have the actual dipstick (the V6's don't). Hope this helps.

I am down 1 quart according to the computer after 6k miles. Many other c-coupe owners have reported even greater oil consumption than you or I. You are doing the right thing by bringing it to your service dept whenever it needs oil. At least it will be documented(make sure they are doing so) with your dealer in case it becomes much worse and needs attention(read $$$), then you can say that the oil consumption has been a problem from day 1 and resolution may be covered under warranty even after 50k.

For those of you that reported oil consumption issues, has the problem dissapated, stayed the same or gotten worse with additional miles???

I've heard that some engines tend to eat more oil when new, then when they fully break in, the consumption is still there but less so and it stabilizes.

Mine seems to have stabilized. OK level for the last 3-4 k or so. Hope it stays that way!

Just got my smurf-ized shift boot. Now I'm finally all smurfed-out. Gonna have to find something new to do to the car.

Yes, we are! We are also concerned that you have actually been harming smurfs while making you're interior blue. They are our cartoon brothers after all.

However, I personally don't care for smurfette (what is it with her dumb smile), perhaps you can take care of her.

My car was down 2 qts after 3700 miles. It is almost to 5000 miles now, and seems to have slowed down in it's comsumption quite a bit. I check the dipstick regularly, and it hasn't seemed to use any since I added at 3700 miles. Mercedes says it can use up to 1liter/1000km. That is absurd though. You would have to take oil with you everywhere you went, and keep a case in the trunk if you went on a trip!

1 quart after 6000 miles (1 litre after 10,000 km) is very low oil consumption, 0.1 L/1000 km. That is not even the slightest concern.

My present car was consuming between 0.2 and 0.3 L per 1000 km new, and it consumes between 0.25 and 0.37 L/1000 km today, at 263,000 km. There is never the slightest bit of blue in the exhaust.

Don't worry, be happy
