My '05 C230 Komp leaks oil!

I got the car in May and have just made 2000 miles on it. I notice a puddle of engine oil in my parking spot. I look under and can see it slowly dripping from under the engine. I'm bringing it in this week to the dealer. Anyone else have this happen? Thanx.

It could be the air conditioner dropping water under the car. I’ve noticed that from my car.

YUP, check the puddle for color and consistency cause it might just be water from your A/C.

Off topic, WOW you only have 2000 miles on your car and you've had it since MAY????

Way off topic: How long between service(s)

I agree only 2K since May? That is low numbers. I bought my 02 w/20K on it in July. I now have 30K. No leaks just the AC condensation drips. Incedently, what is the longest any of you have seen your car go before it wanted a service? I had my Sevice B done at 21.5K and at 30K now it says that I have another 4K to go until my next service. fyi: I drive 65 miles each way for my commute and my average speed going to work is at 58mph w/32.3mpg. I take a different way home to avoid the traffic so my average speed is down to 42mph w/29mpg

It would be hard to notice an oil leak by a puddle of oil on your garage floor. This is because the belly pan covers the entire engine and has the capacity to hold about a quart or two of oil before it shows up on the floor. What really happens is the belly pan collects a bunch of oil and then when you get going on the freeway it evenly blows this oil everywhere under your car making the biggest mess you've ever seen but sparing your garage floor of an unsightly puddle.

Thanks for the input. I've double checked...it is oil. Don't drive too much...the weather in Honolulu is so nice, I mostly ride my GSXR1000.

Don't yell at me for bringing back an old threads b/c others are gunna yell that I didn't search the forum first. I searched and here it is.

My dash message showed that I needed to put 1 more quart of oil in. Is it burning or leaking? is removing the bottom pan the only way to check to see if it's leaking?

Better to be leaking or burning? little burning okay? last oil change was 3,500 miles ago.

Personally, I would bringit to the dealer if it still under warranty and let them figure it out. I had black drops on my garage floor a couple of months ago and turns out it was some bad torque struts. Left one leaked out and the right one was cracked. Both replaced under warranty.

NEITHER- especially not on a car that new. my focus has 140k miles on it and it comes nowhere near close to burning a quart of oil between oil changes. about the only time it's acceptable to have close to that kind of oil consumption is on the RX8 rotary engines.

MBUSA's official stance on oil consumption: 1qt/1000 miles is absolutely normal and within operating specifications. Unless the engine is drinking the stuff, they'll tell you that it is normal.

that is horrible!!! 1 qt in 1k miles? that means you would have to add 10qts of oil in addition to the original oil between oil changes? seems you would never have to change the oil- just keep replacing the filter.

If you're burning that much, it is considered "normal". Most people add maybe a qt between oil changes, if that.

Good to know. I had a 1 qt warning after 10k miles and thought there was a problem with my car. I guess it's normal.

Edit: Instead of adding I just changed oil since it was due.

I got you beat. Bought my 05 in August with close to 18k miles. It now has 31k miles. I try not do drive it too much but I just can't damn resist. It's like my phone. If I don't have it with me...I feel lost. haha!

Please check your cam sensors.

https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...&highlight=cam

This should be made a sticky. This is becoming a common problem and is often misdiagnosed. A sticky might help save members ~$1k in unnecessary repair bills.

Anyone getting the "please add oil" message most likely is suffering this problem.

Where did you hear that b/c archie's comment is conflicting to yours.

From MBUSA. Parent's ML drinks oil and brought it to the dealer's attention. They printed out something stating that 1qt/1000 miles is within operating specs as well as printed this on the invoice.

Conflicting or not, it takes 2 mins to pop your hood and check those connectors for oil. Instead of continuing to post, go check them.

are you sure you aren't forgetting a '0'? 1 qt in 10k miles seems understandable. 10k is at or close to the suggested oil change interval.
