Beating the Camera

I know this shouldnt be in this forum...but well....i shall just ask..

i once read of a plastic shield that you place over your licence. The shield is actually reflective, so if a speed cam took your pictures, it can't see the licence plate.

Anyone know more about this? or where can it be bought ?

I haven't heard of that but I heard somewhere that if you spray hair spray onto your license plates it's so reflective that the camera cannot take a good picture of your license plate. It looks blurred. Not sure though but I heard it.

Yeah, my friend had one like that and got 2 tickets the other day - one for the plate cover, the other 'cause he had taken off his seatbelt to get out his license by the time the cop approached, so the ******* slapped him with an extra one for not wearing a seatbelt. Ahh, you gotta love these Jersey cops...

Tell you the truth, they didn't look like they were reflective, more like opaque, smokey...made the plates like they looked dirty.
He proudly pointed them out with a sly grin when he first got them, but instead of beating the system, he got beat by the system. I'll stick with using my brakes when the lights change...

oh BTW xeon - by overseas you don't mean Germany, I hope?
The TUV there doesn't play. The cops - fugeddaboudit! You will be grounded. They'll withdraw your "Betriebserlaubnis"...

mods have to be sanctioned by the TUV (Technischer UeberwachungsVerein) - basically Motor Vehicle Services. They're very critical of after-market add-ons. Window tinting, license plate covers, most of the shenanigans we see here Stateside are a no-no. You get fined, and if you get into an accident the insurannce may refuse to pay if the add-ons aren't licensed, causing the "General Operating License" to be voided.

I once had a Momo mahogany steering wheel but couldn't find the right column adapter, so I used a generic one and drilled my own holes - very precise, countersunk etc., but I didn't have proper papers to have it added to the vehicle registration. Had I gotten into an accident, I'd have been in big trouble.

I have seen the covers on other cars - it does seem to work. However, in some locations now - here in AZ - the police are modifiying their camera angles so that they take the pictures head on. Therefore if you had a plate cover, it would not work. Also, most of the camera tickets are administered by a contracted company that works for the police department. The camera tickets here in AZ are about $120. Only part of that goes to the local police dept - the remaining portion goes to the company that does the picture taking. It is definitely a money making machine for the police and monitoring company.

Those covers do not work. The plate shows up fine if the photo negative is looked at, not the print. Dont waste your money.

... and don't come here *****ing about it if you get pulled over and ticketed for it. If you try to beat the system and get caught, you have no one to blame but yourself.
