Angry $1100 for a CD player????!!!!!

Thanks for all the replies below regarding the wagon...however, this CD changer situation is crazy.

Dealer option for $1100!!!!

Every other high end car, and many under $25K, has a built in CD player. What's even worse, is adding this option adds about $18 month. Which means I'm going to pay $720 over four years. Youza!!!

Question: Are there any other CD options that will work? Or am I going to be listening to tapes for four more years? BTW, I refused to buckle on my last two cars - A4, 528i.

It's even more stunning that its an option on the S-class too.

www.autoclass.net. It's OEM $399. You can either install it yourself or have your dealer so it,

I was able to get the unit from the dealer and installed for $500 when I bought my C240 last August. It was the only concession they made when the cars were selling for MSRP in my area. From what I hear, it's not an easy install, and they normally charge a couple of hours of labor. I agree it is steep. BTW, isn't a CD optional on BMW 3-series too? I seem to remember it's part of the premium package, or maybe a stand-alone option.

The same changer is available from Autoclass for $400 plus about $65 for the bracket and fiber optic cable. It is possible to install yourself, but it isn't easy. There are instructions here and at bezsport.org. Or you have a dealer install it, or an audio retailer.

http://www.autoclass.net/catalog/mer...ectronics.html

Becker makes the Silverstone 2662 changer. It is cheaper than the Alpine from Autoclass, but it won't fit in the glovebox.

Some members here have purchased the single cd player head unit made by Becker, which is an option in other markets. They are buying over the e-bay.de site. If you go this route, be sure to get the Audio 10 unit for the W203. Other Audio 10's wont fit.

The next option is using an RF modulator to connect a changer to the radio antenna.

Or, you could tear out the factory system and go with an aftermarket system. You will the use of the steering wheel buttons.

Or, you can wait. There are rumors of new options for audio systems in the near future, such as the Audio 30 APS. It combines a AM-FM radio, single cd player and navigation system in one head unit.

My stealer wanted $1200 but was willing to knock off $200 because I bought two cars in three months. I am listening to the radio.

How can anyone afford to sell one of these, in the M-B box, for about 200 Euros, when the price of this item in Germany is 575 Euros?

Where are the Ebay.de sellers getting theirs from?!? Did they steal them? Hijack a truck?!!??

They are people that replace their head units with either the european navigation (like the guy I got mine from) or aftermarket unit. Here's one for 66 Euros with a day and half left to bid.

They are removing them from their cars and replacing them with more expensive systems. Or they might have a source direct from Becker. I wonder how Autoclass sells the changer for $400 when the dealers apparently pay over $500.

I did too. I told the dealer I'd forget about the bad service I got when the MB survey comes out, if they threw in the changer.

Autoclass Arrival

My CD changer, bracket and fiber cable just arrived from Autoclass. 4 business days - Ordered on Friday and was here Thursday Afternoon.

Everything is all MB with MB part no.

Looks good.

Car is scheduled to arrive this weekend with delivery on Tuesday or Wednesday.

My dealer said to schedule install b/4 delivery (with independent installer) so they can make the computer adjustment

My clearbra guy is also arriving Monday.

Phillips Bulbs for lamps arriving next week.

Now if I can just find a better price for Euro side mirrors.

okay...

here's what you do when you negotiate the price of the car.

Negotiate as you normally would, but just insist on a lower value than what you would agree on. when they won't come down to your level and there's just no place else to go, suggest that they throw in the CD changer and window tint.

trust me it works.

I got the changer from autotoys.com for $450 delivered. I picked up the optical cable from my dealer for $20. I secured the changer with two LARGE pieces of velcro for $0. Following some directions someone posted over at benzsport.com I installed the changer in my car in about 1 hour using only a single #20 torx bit screwdriver and a small flatblade screwdriver. It was so easy once you know the process. If I lived in a big city I'd advertise 1 hour C-class installations for $50 each!!!!!!
