for those with C240s
Hello!
Just a q for those with C240s, y is it that when i "Floor" my accelerator, the car does not react immediately.....its lags for a second or two, and as the revs build up above 2500-3000rpm, its only the time when the car surges forward, so its kinda hard to accelerate during sudden overtaking maneuvers. When u floor it, only the revs buid-up, not SPEED!!! Any identical experiences, or is it just my car? My A Class b4 with sequentronic also had this problem, but now with a V6???????d same?????? But as i drive my car for a while, the transmission seems to respond more quickly, but the lag plagues d car at every start of a trip. The "lag" also bothers me most when i do tight parking manuevers, when i shift from "D" to "R" and vice-versa....the car reacts so slowlyyyyyyy....it takes 1-2 seconds to respond to accelerator inputs.

2002 C240 6-spd (ret)
Sorry, I've got a 6-spd in mine so I can't compare. I had a 5-spd V6 Passat ('99) before my C240 that had more HP and torque (190/205), but the C240 seems to have more push at lower rpms. In the Passat, I always had to wait until >2700 rpm for the push. Although it had great power at mid and high rpms, it seemed more like a 4-cyl at lower rpms.

I posted a similar observation/complaint with my new C240 here a few days ago. I also noticed both the Audi and Passat we drove before buying the Benz we very similar in their slow initial acceleration when I "floored" the gas pedal.

The previous Audi/Passat 2.8L V-6 is known for lack of low rpm response (see my previous post). Was the Audi the new 3.0? It should have a lot more HP and torque.

i agree with you! what you are describing is exactly the same thing i am experiencing. im sure having an IS, you can easily compare acceleration on both cars.
.... also, thanks for your reply re: your rims.

white and whiter
i drives a C32 and the same thing would happen. same goes for my dad's ML430 and my sister's CLK320.
i think the cause of the problem is really the electronic controlled throttle. it respond slower than our foot respond.
my advice is to downshift before you try to overtake.

I also have a 6speed. Has okay response at low RPM...I would think that it may be worse with the automatic. The motor response does not kick in until higher up in the rpm range - seems like after about 3000rpm. I usually shift around 3500rpm.

hhmmmm i wonder how MB comes up with 0-60 times, I think my car already takes-2-3 seconds to react to sudden throttle inputs........and MB claims 9++second 0-60times???? wheres d arithmetic-addition in that???????????tsktsk

I think this is pretty typical for Mercedes - this is from an edmunds review of the clk320. Edmunds has previously described the Turbo Lag on a Saab as dangerous - so although its not spelled out directly they are pretty much damning the throttle response - i think that Mercedes should just get it right and let drivers adjust versus the other way around - thats the Teutonic way.
"..Other times, you might punch it making a cross-traffic left turn only to be rewarded with throttle response lag time that not even a Saab turbo suffers.."

Mercedes 2002 C 240
Experiencing the same problem as you, my guess would be the lag is due to our 2.6 litter engines. We don't have a very strong engine in our cars.......but if you have any ideas on how to change our enginge powers, please!!! let me know!

Lag? What lag?
C 230 K here, 6 speed, it has imperceptible (if any) lag. But then it also has monster torque compared to the C 240, developed 2000 rpm lower in the range...

I get a lag even when downshifting sometimes. I know it helps if you don't floor it and just gradually apply pressure on the gas pedal. I normally drive my car on the sports shifting rather than the W.

i have a 240 automatic, and i agree, all the benzes i've driven all do the same thing... 1 floor pedal... 2 rpms..... the at last 3 movement.... mercedes has to wake up and smell the lack of burnt rubber. they have to stop giving the computers in the car all the control and give the driver some.
