05 Kompressor Electrical Fire
230k miles and I think she may be done. Anyone ever experience an electrical fire in the fuse box? Pretty scary. I have 4 original wheels that have been off the car for 10 years if anyone wants them.

Any idea what caused it?
Only thing I can think of is someone replaced a fuse with a higher value one (obviously a very bad idea). Are you the original owner?

Ive noted a very flimsy fastening (or lack thereof) that secures that fuse panel into that cubby hole at the end of the dash. I myself broke the "mounting bracket" by simply pushing a fuse into place. Once its broken from one of the two anchor points it just dangles there attached to several higher amp circuit wires. It occurred to me that a short and subsequent spark/fire is possible if they twisted. Poorly engineered. Hopefully its been corrected in the 20 years since this design.
