Anyone retrofitted active cornering lights?
Just curious.
Know a lot of people have done a bi-xenon upgrade from halogen lights without problems. Has anyone heard of doing retrofit for the active cornering fog lights? Some forum discussions show it probably is possible b/c cars equipped with ESP already have the framework for for telling how fast the car is going and how much the steering wheel is turned.
Just curious.

05s have this right? If they do...that should work for any lights Xenon or not, should work depending on how complex the mechanisim/wiring is. Also ***-uming the dealer can add in the program. (as i stroke my goatee and mutter hmmm)

If this option can be programmed or done, that'd be pretty cool.
Also, what ever happened to active "curving" xenon headlights? Even Lexus has it in their RX330 has it now...

The active cornering lights will illuminate the fog light of the side you are turning into when you use the signal lever. That's all it does. Curve lights are for e class and later models that actually turn the headlight to the left and right depending on steering wheel posiition. As for the C class active lights, the fog lights are a little different. The reflector has been changed. There is a software setting that has to be made for it to do this and no one has looked into it as far as I know.

Sunman, would we be able to modify our bi-xenons to get active curve headlights? Or is that only on the E or requires new lights?
Thanks!

And yes, it is a US spec car. I did the Euro Delivery program through MBUSA.

Ok, so we can't retrofit active cornering lights into the W203. Can someone go into detail exactly what PASSIVE cornering lights actually do then? Do you have to have the fog lights turned on for this to function, or can it be still functioning with the headlamp selector on Auto or Low beams? It seems it would look very strand for oncoming vehicles if for instance you're on a windy road and you see one fog light on then the other. Also, do you really gain that much advantage seeing around the corner with the passive foglamp? When I drive with my low beams and foglights on, the light from the foglights doesn't really project that far.
Also, although it's not available in the retrofit, could you have gotten the active cornering lights on the W203 from the factory if originally asked for them?
Lots of questions, thanks in advance.

i would think for the fogs to illuminate while turning they would have to be turned on.
plus remember the GM cars that had that bright white light illuminate the side of the car when the blinkers were turned on. atleast it wouldnt be like that.

Passive lights aka cornering lights on the w203 C class from 2005 are when the fog light will illuminate on the side the person is taking a turn. This happens when you use your signal light lever. Same thing Cadilliac has had for years now. It is the same thing has the GM cars.

jugdishoh, NO there is no active headlight available from factory for the 203 either...if there was, it would have been retrofiteable.

My understanding is that it is activated (passively, of course) by either the turn signal or steering wheel inputs. But is only works under 25 mph. No one mentioned this, so I thought I would point it out.

I guess Steve can confirm it, but I think it just illuminates the respective fog light (which I assume has been designed to provide some lateral light). I will figure the whole thing out once my coupe is redelivered.
