Difference between Black and Diamond Black

I plan on getting the 2005 C230K. I have not had the chance to go see the car at the dealer yet. I was wondering what the difference is between Black and Diamond Black paint color. Is there a significant difference?

WRONG!

It is definitely not green!!!!!

Diamond Black is a metallic black with BLUE flakes mixed in.

To answer the thread poster's question, yes, it looks much better (to me) than flat black. That's why I chose it.

simmer down, like i said "to me" it looks green.

never looked at the paint up close. either way i will agree with you it looks way better than black. any metallic black looks better IMO, and will not swirl as much as regualr black.

I'm not attacking Citron. I don't think it's a matter a personal opinion or optics, I think he's just mistaken.

Citron, if you saw a car with a black metallic that you thought looked green, you were definitely looking at a different color, probably Black Opal. I believe Black Opal is greenish (while Obsidian Black is greyish). But Diamond Black is definitely based on a true, deep, navy blue, almost purple at times. There is no hint of green in it at all. It is not a greenish-blue or turquoise or aquamarine. It's a royal, navy type blue.

I have never seen my car look green under any lighting condition, and no person who has ever seen my car has said that it looks green at all.

I just wanted to make it perfectly clear to the guy who's considering it that it is not green in any way shape or form. It would suck if he thought it was green and ended up choosing based on that.

Citron, man, I think you've been looking at your Citron car too long!!!

yeah i only saw one diamond black that i know of for sure and it was at a dealer in the outside parking lot. it was a cloudy day. no that being said i know it was diamond black because i saw the window sticker. it just looked like it had a greenish hue to it. it may have been blue but to me it seemed green.

i probably have been looking at my car way too long!

hey nichole you going to the meet at the rosebowl?

black opal seems alot closer to that steel gray, not really greenish. the 3 black opal cars I had seen didn't look green...

My dealer just got in a diamond black c230 the other day. From far it looks like flat black but as you get closer you can tell a slight difference (it was next to a c240 that was flat black so I could compare in the same lighting). As you get closer it almost looks purple, if you look REAL close you can see the blue metalic flakes in it.

They also had two black opal c230's... the color looks more like a really dark purple than black (both from far and close).

To be honest I was dissapointed in diamond black. I was expecting more of a diamond look rather than a blueish hue. This is just my opinion, but I prefer flat black to either of those two colors. I haven't seen obsidian black in person yet but I would definitly like to. Otherwise I may end up with a silver or flat black car...

What do you mean by "more of a diamond look"? Just curious what you are envisioning? Like clear?

Wait until your paint starts swirling, then you might feel differently.

Boring. :p j/k. To each his own. You getting silver or flat black will make my car all the more unique, anyway, so go for it! Citron must have no problem being unique...

I thought it would be more of a black with white/silver flakes in it rather than blue flakes.

I currently have a black 2001 C240. It was great for the first 6 months or so where I washed it by hand myself and zainoed it every chance I got... after a few washes from the dealer it did get some swirls. As long as I zaino it after getting it washed at the dealer I find it still looks darn good... but its quite a bit of work (and it goes to the dealer more often than I would like). If/when I get another black car I definitly will ask the dealer not to wash it... Until then my swirl black car will take all the free washes they give me, heh.

I agree... boring, but I like em and that is what counts. =) I hate seeing silver benzes all over the place and thinking if I get a silver one I will just be adding to that number, but I can't deny that they look damn good in silver.

No kidding! I am taking in my car soon for my first dealer visit (at 1K-3Kmi), and will be specifically instructing them not to wash or wax the car. Just do the diagnostics and leave the finish alone!!!!!

the diamond prefix means blueish. For example, diamond silver has a bluish tint.

I posted a pic of a diamond black SLR a while back. I got up close and personal with it at the NY Auto Show earlier this year. I saw flecks of blue-green, magenta and desert silver....this color is multi-dimensional and picks up different hues depending on lighting conditions. It's sweet...and well worth the metalic paint charge.
