Increasing the Tire Ratio to Protect Rim?

Greetings,

I have a 2005 C class W203 sedan with the sport package, and the stock 17" wheels that come with it. I am looking to increase the tire size, not the width, the ratio/ radius of the tire.
Here is what I am considering:
Front uses 225x45 r17
Front New 225x50 r17

Rear uses 245x40 r17
Rear New 245x45 r17 or 245x50 r17

I have a new job and a new commute, with a lot of nasty potholes, and other broken pavement. I am trying to keep my wheels from bending, and my tires from getting bubbles in the sidewalls.

Does anyone have any experience running a 50 series tire on our cars?
Thanks,

Matt|ttaM

I imagine it should work, other than possibly some rubbing on the liners when the steering wheel is turned all the way to the side. That's such a minor change that I imagine it would be negligible. People have used 18" rims on these cars without issues.

Other than that you just have to keep in mind the % change in your speedometer.
