What's the highest mileage you got in your C class?

I drive about 22 miles to work each day, about 18 of it highway. The longer I've driven on the highway the higher my miles per gallon reading is (makes sense of course), I've hit about 28.3 mpg on occasion. I've yet to take it on a long highway road trip and am curious about other c-class owners what the highest reading they've even seen on their car. Please list model/yr.

Also, another question, a sales person told me there was NO mileage difference btwn cars with 4matic and those without, is that true, and how the hell is that possible?

4matic only kicks in when it is needed. so i would presume it would get the same MPG unless 4matic has kicked in.

It was my understanding that 4matic was full time all wheel drive, it was just how the power ratio to the different wheels changes under different driving conditions. (If I'm not mistaken).

your right!

"The permanent all-wheel-drive system is combined with state-of the-art six-cylinder and eight-cylinder petrol engines. In the C-Class, the C 240 and C 320 Estates and Saloons are available with 4MATIC. In the S-Class, 4MATIC is available for the S 350, S 430 and S 500 Saloons. The six-cylinder and eight-cylinder models of the new E-Class (211 model series) will be optionally available with 4MATIC from autumn 2003."

on my recent trip back to San Diego from Los Angeles (approx 120 miles), I averaged a speed of 75mph (including street traffic), and mileage came out to 28.4 mpg.
On my daily commute of about 20 miles I'm averaging around 24.7 to 25.2 mpg. (That's about 15 minutes on the freeway [80+ mph] and 5 minutes in street traffic [0-45 mph]).

I drive about 27 miles to work each day, about 25 of it highway. I average 28 on the freeway and 26 overall. The longer I've driven on the highway the higher my miles per gallon reading is, I've hit about 32 mpg on occasion.
It seems best gas mileage is at 75!

I drove a loaner C320 Coupe last week, I was surprised that it got just less than 29 MPG on the freeway at 75 MPH. This would be just over one MPG less than my C230 Coupe on the same road.

i had a C320 coupe loaner once as well. not only does it get great MPG, but all the smooth power it has over my 1.8L. id regret not getting one, but wasnt told about the C320 Coupe until a week after my car and was built 12/02. that's how i justify it.

I am impressed with the high mileage obtained out there, and to quote Ketan, yes, it's friggin awesome with a 6 cylinder. Like I said, I've never gotten more than 28.3 or so mpg on my car but 1) the longest trip I've done on it so far is about 50 miles highway, 2) I probably expect the mileage to increase after the engine breaks in a bit (I'm at around 2500 miles now).

I guess a related question is if you're getting that high a mileage on those trips, how many miles do you get off a full tank of gas? (on my daily commute, I"m getting close to 400 miles/tank)

I drove 120 miles per day to work and back until last week. (Now I drive 10 miles to work and back ). I averaged about 29 MPG, but I occasionally hit over 30 MPG. I tried to cruise at a constant 70-71 mph in 6th gear, since the highway is fairly well patrolled. I have also found that ~75mph gives the best fuel economy on this car.

I was fairly happy with the fuel efficiency for a 3.2l V6. The Coupe is awesome on the freeway considering quietness and smoothness.

The highest mileage I logged in the coupe was on a road trip back from the Montreal GranPrix.....38.1mpg, but that was with cruise set at 68mph, with ac off and the windows/roof closed.
The E gets about 21-23 around town and about 28 on the highway (avg), but 4Matic is active at all times and it adds about 300 lbs to the weight of the vehicle.

I get around 30mpg for my daily commute of 130miles. I pull out of my driveway on to a rural hwy and set the cruise for 65. most of the corners are posted at 35-45 so I do slow down some for them, mostly when it is wet out and this is NW Oregon. Log and Chipper trucks also slow my progress. Once I hit the Sunset Hwy (Hwy 26) I am able to set the cruise back to between 65-70. I have seen a few days where I have achieved close to 35mpg, but not too often.
