Best Fuel for GLE ?

Hello everyone,

Which fuel brand do you use for your GLE? I know any top-tier fuel should be fine, but I’ve noticed some differences. I tracked a full tank of Costco Premium 93 and got around 21.2 mpg with average driving conditions. Today, I filled up with Shell V-Power Nitro+ and immediately noticed the car felt smoother, with a mileage of about 26.4 mpg. It might be too early to tell, and it could just be a placebo effect, but I’m curious—what fuel do you usually use in your GLE?

You can also vote by selecting one option. Poll is right at the top of this post.

Thanks!

O geez here we go, waiting on the don’t waste your money crew to join in. Ive been driving for 300 years with ____ gas no issues everr.

Anyways I voted. Shell is my #1 choice for my regular full ups for 93, Mobil or Exxon is my #2 option if I am far from home and Shell is not available. And then Sunoco #3 if the preferred options are not available. And also Sunoco for E85.

My preferred station nearby the residence is Chevron. I use Gas Buddy app to locate the cheapest and nearest top tier when I'm away from home or road tripping. I use Fuelio app to track MPGs and maintenance.

I use Ontario Hydro electricity for my GLE 450e at less than 1/5th the price of gasoline. 😉. My first fill up was after 3 months of ownership.

You'd have to have some seriously stable gasoline to last as long as it will on your car.🙂
I bet we'll get some feedback on the stale gasoline in the next year or so, as EV adoption increases.

BTW over the last week or so, I've seen a few reports lowering the estimated EV saturation to under 30%.
These were energy studies, where they thought data centers and Bitcoin mining were going to exceed the energy consumption of EVS soon.
Thread drift, sorry....

Two years ago I filled up at a gas station that was previously a Shell station. Now it's unbranded, primarily liquor.
I talked to the owner.
It turns out he was an executive at Shell corporate who was "downsized," so he bought this gas station with his separation money.

He said that Shell is getting out of retail gasoline.
I know it's been getting harder to find.

I'm surprised by the level of brand loyalty here. Those who don't commit to a single brand shouldn't fret - any Top Tier fuel is fine.

Any top tier is fine, but in my experience, brand makes a difference.
Seat of the pants and fuel economy can be different.

I doubt there's a placebo effect, but maybe.

Gasoline is a commodity product - it is technically all the same in base form, and the various brands buy from the same refineries. (There are two octane formulas.) Once Brand X has the gasoline in their mixing terminal, the required detergents are added, ethanol is typically added, and the octane is adjusted as needed. Top Tier brands go above and beyond the standard requirement by adding additional detergents. While tests have proven again and again that Top Tier gasoline keeps your engine cleaner, I have yet to see a test that suggests any one Top Tier brand has a formula that works especially well, or somehow makes the gasoline itself more efficient. I'd love to know if any such data exists.

not really. each brand uses different additives. it's not all the same. there are dyno videos proving it in terms of power differences too.

direct injection actually nullifies the benefits of extra detergents compared to traditional port injection. so one could argue the extra detergents have no effect in cleaning intake valves for direct injection engines.

it's shells other additives besides detergent that has me interested.

Interesting test. But the real results were delivered shortly after the 11:00 mark when your host summarized the results and acknowledged that all the fuels performed identically (his word) with the car in stock tune. It wasn't until the RS6 received a flash tune that the differences became apparent. So if you have your GLE tuned or have an ultra high performance car in your stable, I'd say there might be a benefit to running Shell 93. Otherwise short of evidence to the contrary, I still say any Top Tier premium fuel is fine.
