2005 C-coupe Harman Kardon Package
It seems that the new coupes have speakers in the rear giving the car a total of 12 speakers. Does anyone have specs on the location of the rear speakers and if the moldings could be used on an older model coupe...say 2002. I wanted to purchase the plastic speaker moldings/panels so that I can install speakers in the rear for my aftermarket head unit to give it a flush look. Part numbers and prices would be great to. Another question that may be old is if anyone knows the speaker dimensions for the 3 speakers in each of the doors. Thanks in advance.

HK system is crap compared to the old Bose set up..
Also the new Becker Comand APS has navigation faults that Mercedes Becker and NAVTEQ can't put right. My car has a MB case number. Still no fix. Waiting for a refund on the navigation..

guys, i bought two cd cartridges from ebay for the cd changer. they both got the mb p/n A002 820 62 89. however, one of them got the removable trays (the trays would come off when you take out the discs), and the other one got fixed trays, like the cartridge I got from the mb car dealer.
My question is, can the cartridge with the trays that would come off be used on the mb cd changer ? I am afraid of trying because I fear the disc/tray would get stuck in the cd changer.
Thanks.

yes. the removable trays were used in the old alpine style changers, and fit the new ones. and in fact, the new "fixed" tray ones have removable trays also. you just have to lift a little and wiggle to get them out. i asked a tech this same question last november when we picked up our sl.

I have got both. Digital Bose and HK on my drive right now (in two different cars of course). The Digital Bose is a million times better the HK.
The Bose has a deeper richer effortless base, and the tweeters are brighter.
The HK loses all its base at low volume, and the tweeters are very average..
and with the HK you are aware the speaker are working in the door panels.
With the Bose the door speaker sound effortless. Dont believe me.. I have both right now.. come and listen

I've only compared the BOSE Premium sound on my 2004.5 C320 Sedan with my friends H/K systems on 2 BMW's. And even they agree, that my BOSE system sounds 10 time better. I would say it's crisp, sharp and very "digital" (whatever that means) in all ranges from Treble to Bass. Reading a little on this forum, I'm finding out that the H/K system has quite a few glitches. Not sure if it is the system itself or the speakers that are being installed with it. Don't know much about sound properties, so really can't tell technology-wise which is better Bose or H/K.

CD glitches and no pre-set station scan from the steering wheel controls, to me is a big

2002 C230 Coupe(M111)
Hey, so youre the old coot that bought my C-64! Want a big floppy drive to go with that?
I have the fancy bose in my car....its OK. The bass is pretty poor. It sounds clean when you crank it, but the bass is still anemic. Didn't know the HK units had glitches. When I drove the 05 Coupe, it sounded much better than my Bose. Do a search...people here hate the BOSE units.

Bose over HK
Looks as though I am the only one that's got both the Bose and HK and each in a Mercedes on my drive now... so I should know what the difference is..!!
If you own the HK system and have never heard the Digital Bose with the Becker Comand 2.0 navigation head unit (which includes TV, AV1, AV2, UK/European model) then best you don't know the difference.
I think we get a different head unit in the UK to the US Navigation/Bose unit. I think the US model is an Alpine hybrid?
We get 350watt Bose amp and our Mercedes cars come with an all parts and labour 4 year unconditional transferable worldwide warranty/guarantee.. We also get a 30 year breakdown & roadside or home assistance cover for free.. This includes a replacement car while yours is off the road..!! They will even come out with a can of gas within 30 miles of a dealership should you run out..
I don't think you guys in the US get anything like that..
And guess what.. they don't expect a tip either..!!

MB Bose HK
Great to see you guys in the US get a simular service now.
Our four year UK warranty is with an unlimited mileage (not 50k) and with a world wide cover, which is great for mainland Europe motoring during vacations/holidays. And I tell you, we need it since they have been building MBs in the US.
The European Comand systems have a Linguatronic option, voice control, which I have on one of my Mercedes.
So all this and we even manage to get MB to put the sterring wheel on the right hand side of the car..
By the way.. lifetime warranty is 30 years... read the small print

I love the inside snipes at "the colony". Brings me back to when I used to live in London...
I wish I could get linguatronic...
As for the fine print, eh, I really don't read fine print anymore... If I do sign any contracts with fine print, anything boilerplate, I usually don't read it... Not such a smart thing, but when you know you can argue about it in court, it really doesn't matter anymore. (Waiting for the joke about the US being an extremely litigious society.)
