New manifold heat shield to reduce upper engine temps..

As you can see below, after a normal drive, the exhaust manifold temp approaches 300'C. The addition of the new steel shield, has dropped the temps in the upper region to under 100'C, as can be seen below. I also took a reading above the small aluminium shield that Mercedes originally supplied. This had a slightly elevated temp compared to the new steel shield i installed..

I've always wondered if the dealer ever updated the stock heat shield. The current one is definitely too small to cover the coolant nipple (the one that cooks and breaks on everyone every few years). Personally I was thinking of making something ghetto with a sheet of aluminum foil, or just wrapping the
The rest of the engine (M271) doesn't seem to have any heat related issues in terms of plastic piping. Even the rest of the hose/pipe section between the engine and coolant tank (the long thing one with the bends) seems to be fine.

Most other cars i have owned have had some sort of heat shielding around exhaust manifold, so found it a little unusual for this model not have a more extensive shield setup..
