C55 AMG W203 Coolant Issue

Hey guys this is my first time posting on here so apologies if this is in the wrong place.

A couple of months ago I purchased a C55 AMG, I bought it from an enthusiast who spared no expense in maintaining and repairing the vehicle, or so I thought.

For about a month the coolant level has been dropping. I did initially find white sludge on the oil cap but this was only the one time, so I took it to an independent specialist to try and diagnose the issue. Their conclusion was as follows;

“Investigate coolant loss on vehicle. Carried out initial road test to find coolant level had dropped. Stripped down and sent a camera down each piston. Found no washed pistons but did find a lot of oil residue linking to potential valve stem seals. Found no external coolant leaks, pointing to possible head gasket fault. Next step would be to remove the heads for further investigation. Built vehicle back up.”

To continue working on the vehicle they quoted an initial price of £3500. Understandable that the price would be high due to there being two head gaskets, but I am not sure if that is indeed the issue and was hoping for some more advice before I decide what to do going forward.

My questions are;

Has anyone else had similar issues?

Does 3500 sound like a lot for this?

Does anyone have any ideas on what this could possibly be other than a head gasket fault?

Is it even worth the money to repair it or should I WeBuyAnyCar it before it gets worse?

Any opinions, thoughts and ideas would
be massively appreciated.
