The board for my 02 Audi allroad 6MT dash display was doing the same temperature dependent shenanigans. Pixels only faded below 55F. Thankfully the CPO replaced the speedo assembly in 07.

 

PS: the designer of the footwell panel above the pedals should get a dedicated torture room in hell. After one hour of wrestling with it I need a chiropractic guy now.
