C230 HVAC Issues
I bought an 02 C230 with 138k km on it. Bought it under the impression that the ac wasn't working, looks like I'm having stepper motor issues too. I had the common clicking behind the dash and only air available to the footwells. Opened the dash and saw the frequently broken linkage which I replaced. The clicking was gone once I opened the dash and started it up, but the arm was broken so I knew that needed to be replaced. Still am unable to switch the air from solely the footwell. I went to the junkyard and replaced the two accessible motors with ones from an 06 E class, still no luck. If I remove the motors from the gearing but keep them plugged in, the motors don't spin when using the HVAC reset trick.
Any ideas what I should look for next?

Did you calibrate the system? Hold the first 2 buttons (front defrost and recirculate) button until both buttons alternate flashing. Give it a couple of minutes tho let the car relearn all the motor positions. If done properly, the lights should stop flashing.
After that, turn the car off for at least 2 minutes to lock in the new values.
The E class motors may not be compatible. The PN you want to use is 203-820-16-42 aka Behr EAB501 or EAB502 (there may be other brands/models that may work).
Take a look at the HVAC stepper motor sticky if you haven't already done so.
