Need help ! - got P0120 & P2119 once every morning
I left the car on jack stand for a few days to replace a front wheel hub. Two week earlier, I replace the alternator and water pump, all with MB OEM parts.
After the job was done, my son started the car, suddenly we heard oscillating noise from the engine - it surged up and down in 1-second frequency with engine tilting in the same rhythm., and engine light came on. It gives two codes:
P0120 - Current: Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit
P2110 - Pending: Throttle Actuator Control Throttle Body Range / Performance.
We removed the cables from the throttle control device and cleaned them with electric cleaner, with no effect. We also checked all hoses and found no vacuum leak.
At one point, he floor the gas pedal. I saw black smoke coming out of the exhaust for 1 second or so, then it became clear. The CEL went away.
It seems this happens only when engine is cold. As almost every morning the same happens again. Then after we floor the gas pedal once, it runs OK for the day. From the pattern of this happening, it seems the issue is not with TPS, as otherwise, it would have run normally at all.
Could anyone with knowledge on Throttle related issue or experienced the same please share some insight what we should check check next?
Many thanks!
