C55 Steering Wheel Wont Tilt Up!!
C55 Steering Wheel Wont Tilt Up!!
Hey everyone, I recently picked up a 2006 Merc C55. However it seems the steering wheel doesn't tilt up anymore. Works fine to go down, in and out but not upwards. When I try to go upwards, I cannot hear the relay clicking. I did a basic test and found at the relay module under the driver's seat (right hand drive), none of the pins changed voltage when I pressed the lever upwards, however If i press downwards It does. Gives me a good feeling one of the contacts in the stalk has possibly gone bad. I did also notice that the steering wheel doesn't retract and extend when the easy entry feature was enabled. I tried getting the column plastic cover off but I can't. Looks like I may have to take the steering wheel off or the lower dash trim off? Or could it be the motor? Any help would be appreciated.

You must be desperate to be slumming in the non-amg forum.
Nice choice of car. Wish I could help, but my steering column and seats are manually
controlled. One less thing to break.
If you have any type of scanner that works with Merc, I'd use it. They can tell you if switches are being
acuated in live data.
I recently picked up a Launch MB specific scanner from Ebay for $129.
In your case this unit would be very useful as it allows you to see if the ECU is seeing the switch pushed or not, allows you
to actuate motors, and lights in the car etc, see switch posittions, and of course will tell you the Merc specific errors such a short OR and open circuit.
So for instance if the switch doesn't register you'd know it's the switch etc. If it does and the motor doesn't move, it will likely throw a code.
You will know what the car is seeing and not from the inside.
I'm not sure what module controls those functions since i don't have them, but I"m sure others here would know.
As far as taking things apart, check here https://charm.li/ for a free online manual or youtube.
