I am new to the forum. My name is Jose and I am from Costa Rica.

About 6 years ago my C240’s transmission cooler failed and contaminated the transmission and cooling system. After flushing the transmission and cooling system, we learned that the valve body on the transmission also failed due to the oil/coolant mix and it was replaced.

The car sat for about 5 years in a shop and the mechanic recently gave it to me. During this time, he swapped the front SAM claiming it was water damaged. He never completely fixed it so I recently sent a tow truck and got it back home. I tried starting the car but there is no connection between ECU and SAM so the car won’t start. I removed the ECU and on the lower bolts that hold the ECU cover and internals in place so saw a bit of rust meaning water got into the front Sam box.

I ordered another ECU that matched the exact part number from the car’s original ECU but haven’t tried starting it with that because it probably won’t… as I believe there needs to be programming so that my key is read and so it turns on.

The front Sam is all plugged and most functions seem to work like lights, radio, manually locking the car with the dash button but the key fob doesn’t lock/unlock the car. It does unlock the steering wheel.

I don’t want to start throwing money where things may not be necessary so I would like to know if someone can provide some input as to what can be done or where I should start.
