2005 c55 amg that rear sunshade is stuck up. it’s been replaced in the past by dealer

When I bought my car, the sunshade was stuck in the up position. The shade was completely jammed. I had to remove the sunshade in order to get it down. That requires removal of the rear seatback if you don't have folding rear seats. If you have folding rear seats, it is a bit easier. But you will need to remove the C-pillar trim in order to remove the rear shelf. You can find more information in post #8 of this thread.
The cause of my problem was a damaged plastic gear in the motor. I replaced the motor with a used one, but the shade occasionally sticks in the upright position. When that happens, I gently push the arms that support the shade towards the center of the car, while someone pushes the control button. This will allow the motor to retract the shade. I have seen posts and videos that suggest pressing too hard on the arms will break them. I recommend that you avoid using a lot of force.
I have been told that the location of the sunshade motor exposes it to high temperatures caused by sun beating down though the rear window during the summer. This causes the grease in the gears to degrade and interfere with operation. I don't know whether this is true, but my sunshade has never worked smoothly for long periods and I rarely use it.
Good luck with resolving your problem.
