'05 C230SS problems
- HK stereo blasting with static
- In-dash single CD player had a regular disc (not burned) stuck
- stereo not working at all (currently)
- rear lights leaking water
- seat belt height adjuster virbrating
- trunk release button vibrating with the stereo
The funny thing is that I always make an appointment, and when I bring the car in, there is no problem to be found. For example, the stereo will start working again on the day I have to bring it in for service. I still have to have them look at the seat belt and the trunk release. Also, the condensation in the rear lights was a one time thing. It's odd how these things happen only once and then dissapear.. and then re-appear a few weeks later.
So my question is, should I still take my car in and have them document it? Each time I go, the guy says I don't need to leave the car because there is no problem. Although I'm being told by my friends that I should still have them look at it so it's documented on their side that these problems are ongoing. Hopefully these little bugs will fade away because I'm almost ready to trade it in for another Japanese car.
You should absolutely hound the service department until something is resolved. We drive a premium line of automobile and should not have to deal with such quality issues nor unresponsive service. If you can, perhaps try to switch service advisors or even dealers if more than one are in your area.
I will tell you that the trunk release button rattle with the HK system is a common problem that almost every 05 owner is experiencing. The dealer doesnt have a fool proof fix for it...they will make it go away for a few days at best. Many threads have suggested a bit of electrical tape or putty which has worked well but is pathetic to have to resort to.
I must say, 5 months of ownership and I'm pretty annoyed with my "econobenz" for all of its quality issues. I miss my M3.
Best of luck to you and take care.

I've read all your posts, but I don't see any "quality issues" listed. What are they, if you don't mind me asking?
thanks
Jim

The H/K problem seems to have been fixed by a firmware upgrade to the amplifier.
They replaced the "door panel" but I still get the damn rattle in the seat belt adjusters.
But, I've never heard the trunk release button rattle, hmm...
Well, I only have about 1600 miles on my car so far since its not my daily driver. In any case, I'm a bit disgruntled with it because of the following:
When I picked the car up new, a day later I discovered the sunroof did not work at all. It was dead to the world. How did it pass new car inspection like this? (I would have caught this problem if it had not been pouring rain the day of delivery.)
After the car being stuck in the service department for almost 3 weeks, they had the sunroof motor changed to no avail. Finally, some electronics had to be replaced. Now when you hit the once touch, it still doesn't work right. Sometimes it will go all the way back, sometimes it stops at different spots along the way and I have to hit it several times.
Upon delivery, my keyless entry feature that can open or close the roof and all the windows also sometimes worked and sometimes didnt work. This still hasnt been resolved.
The front headlight housings always fog up when its humid outside or rains. (Minor, and I'm not sure if its quality related, but annoying.)
Finally, the HK rattle issue that I spoke of before. I have never had my bass above "0" nor have I played it very loud.
Not what I expected from a brand new car, but perhaps I am way too picky. Feel free to tell me I'm an unreasonable idiot, if you think I am, hehe!

To add to my distress, one night I had a flat tire. I called MB roadside assistance and got voicemail at 1am. Hawaii has a different roadside assistance number. Then the next day I called the parts department and the guy told me he didn't have the exact tire in stock. I then asked him what could I put on that is similar, and he said all he knows is what's "showing up on the computer". I asked if I could bring the car in and leave it and he said, "Well, even if you bring it in, there's no guaruntee that it can be replaced. It may be 3 weeks". I was pissed. I called my salseperson and left a voicemail. She never called me back. The message I left stated, "I'm having a dilema with my new car and I am getting the runaround from the service department. Do you think you could help to point me in the right direction? Could you please call me back". She never called back. I even called her a month prior to ask about purchasing the hands-free car kit and if she could refer me to someone in the parts department but she never called. I had better service when I had my 530i and even better service from Acura with my RL's. I'm probably going to write a letter to the dealership and/or MBusa.

Took my car in for the first A service. I mentioned the front center speaker noise. Well - when I picked up the car, the center speaker noise was fixed (kind of), but only when the stereo was in the standard mode. Once I flipped back to the surround mode, the static came back. Will definitely try to get the firmware software update next time I go in.
Worst thing --- after I picked up the car from the dealer, there was a rattle somewhere around the passenger seat of the car. It sounds like an aluminum on aluminum type sound rattle - and it only happens while the car is in motion.
ANYONE ELSE HEAR THIS NOISE ?
other than that - the car is awesome - but I have had a few other issues that I would not typically expect when buying a premier car.

Anyone had this problem?
