Brilliant Silver C240
Exact same problem
I too have the exact same problem. I hear a whining/graoning noise when the I turn right. It is especially more pronounced when the car is cold in the morning and at slower speeds.
I think I will take it to the dealer for a checkup.
tmak26b,
Let me know if it turns out to be the ps fluid in your case. Thanks.

As others have already posted, its likely low on power steering fluid. MB's tend to use a little. Ive had it happen on my car. I think its bull**** personally, Ive never had a car in my life that needed power steering fluid unless it had a leak. Dealer claims this stuff 'evaporates'. Um, yeah....

My c320 is in the shop with this same problem!
My car had the same problem with the noise comming from the steering wheel but it didn't matter which way I turned the noise was there. After 2 days I called my Service Adviser he told me it might be the P/S fluid so I took it to him when he checked it, it hardly registered on the dip-stick. He added the fluid and the problem went away...... Well for 2-days then it came back louder! So on Thursday Dec 30, 2004 I dropped it off for inspection. I later received a call from my Service Adviser telling me my rack & pinnion was out along with something else in the steering colum... My warranty expired last Sept because I purchased the car new in Sept 2000 (that's what I get for buying a 2001 in 2000 I guess). Anyhow the total repair was going to cost me $2600 which I nearly dropped the phone when I heard the price! Well my Service Adviser is a really nice guy so he spoke with management and explained I've always taken really good care of my car and I only had 37000 miles. Mercedes said they will pick-up everything except half of the labor charges which will equal $350 out of my pocket!
Needless to say I'm VERY happy they are helping me out with this huge repair but I know for a fact that there is no way my steering should have gone out on a 4 year old car with 37000 miles. Now that I'm reading this tread and hearing that so many others have reported this power steering problem (although not as bad as mine) tells me these cars have a problem!

Same Problem Solved
Same as above: low speed wining especially at right turn. Immediately suspect steering fluid and comfirmed here thanks to all contributed here. Due to suspect some leaking, used Bar Leaking steering adds up, fill to max and whining stopped immediately.
