Should I be concerned?

I was inspecting the engine compartment when I noticed a metal spur sticking up from the center belt pulley. Have you guys seen this and is it normal? It is nicking the belt slightly. You can see spur in this picture and barely make out the nicks. It is easier to see with the full size picture but had to resize smaller for the forum.

I took it to the dealer this afternoon. They looked at it and said that it wasn't a big deal, but since I had only 250 miles on the car they want to replace belt and pulley for me tomorrow. They were very nice about it.

They said pulley was plastic and they scraped off the spur. The belt doesnt look bad at all really. They said that if I was paying for it then it wouldn't be worth replacing.

I wonder if I should just drive with the current belt and pulley and skip the engine work. You know, if it's not broke dont fix it. The marks on the belt are very minor.

What would you guys do in this situation?

If the belt is nicked, I'd replace it. A damaged belt will start to fray and shorten the life. It sounds like the pulley is optional.
