It worked. For about 20 minutes. Anything more than that and the radio goes dead. And it wont start up again until I physically remove the audio 10, put the standard head unit back in, and swap them out again.
Anyone know what the problem could be? Is it broken? Where can I send it to be fixed?
I think it may be over-heating. The large heatsink on the back of the audio 10 (the metal back portion of the radio) was too hot to touch when I removed it from the console.
Suggestions?

Craig, is your sound system Bose or standard?
Mine is Bose, and the newly installed Becker BE4410 (Audio 10 CD) unit works just fine for hours, at full blast (to provide decent sound with the windows down).

I'm just trying to figure out - maybe it does matter? I guess we need to poll Audio 10 owners and see if there is any correlation.
I know that the Bose system has an external amp, and my assumption was that the standard one does, too. But if it doesn't, then it has to rely on the head unit's built-in amp. This may be the root of the problem - as someone reported earlier (sorry, forgot the name), Audio 10 has a weaker amp compared to the US stock unit.

Mines's the Audio 10 (BE-6021). I sent mine in today to Becker in N.J. for the jammed CD player. The radio worked fine but I didn't have a chance to test it too much.

BE6021
I have a Becker BE6021 with the Bose system. Installed last week.
If the Audio 10 works upon startup then it works fine for hours.
The problem with my Audio 10 is that it is on but has no speaker output most of the time the car is started. Sometimes it works in accessory key position, but not when started.
I am going to see my MB tech next week. I think it needs programmed because sometimes the MFD displays NO PHONE and other times NO REMOTE. I know that many others have installed the BE4410 or BE6021 w/o problems.

Mine arrived 2 weeks ago tomorrow. My preferred dealer for service MB of Morristown installed it for me in about 5 minutes checked whatever codes needed adjusting and it has worked like a charm (not one glitch) since installed. Can anyone scan the Audio 10 CD manual and send it to me?

WbeGuyNJ, thanks for the inspiration. Hopefully after mine gets back from Becker it will be working perfectly. A dealer in Germany is sending me an english manual. I'll see if I can borrow a scanner and scan it in.

not turning on
I've got a similar thing, where the radio won't turn on all the time when i start the car. An interim solution I've figured out is to turn the key to the On but not started position, wait a sec, then start the car. It usually starts then. If it doesn't turn on when its in the on but not started position I turn the radio on and off, remove and reinsert the key, then start the car. Keeps me from having to start and then stop and then start the car.

So far, I have not had any problems with the Audio 10-Becker BE6021 (except for the 5 second delay of dead air upon start up).
I would be very interested in seeing a copy of the manual as well!

SO what is the verdiict ???
Sorry I have revived this old Pots but what is the problem with the Audio 10 and how was it fixed ???
I have the same problem with the unit. It is on and everything seem to work EXECEPT FOR NO SOUND OUT PUT AT ALL.
The only work around I can rely on is to turn off the car. Wait for at least 1 full minute then restart. It usually works on the first try.
Would like to know how other Audio 10 owner resolve this issue.
Thanks

may be he/she needs a fiber loop reset or whatever. Mine was installed professionally and had in for 2 weeks now without a problem. I also had them put in the climatronic and told them they need to go in together so that it will not throw error code (so they did it for price of one :-).....i love the audio 10 but the climatronic is kinda flaky (sometime buttons have to be held down for a while etc....oh well but looks great)

The Verdict
I contacted Becker USA and sent them the Audio 10. Over 2 months later there was no response from them, so I sent them a follow-up email. They responded that they had sent the audio 10 to Germany to be repaired and hadn't heard back from them, but now that they had heard from me, they would inquire as to the status of the audio 10.
Germany had the Audio 10, had repaired it, but hadn't sent it back. As soon as they heard from Becker USA, they shipped the Audio 10 back to Becker, who in turn shipped it back to me. I now have the Audio 10, fully functional. I would tell you what was wrong with the unit, but the repair description is in German.
So the Audio 10 wasn't so bad after all. I just needed to wait 3 months.

To find out what they did to fix it, got to http://babelfish.altavista.com and type in the german text. You should be able to translate it.

Makes me wonder? Were all of these bought on ebay? Were all of these used?
I've seen some people on ebay advertise them and not offer anything; whereas others freely admit to some problem with the unit.
Makes me wonder if I should go directly to a German MB dealer, pay $370 + shipping and get a new one that I can return if there is a problem. At least that what the phone call said I just got from Germany from a friend of mine.

Becker fixed my radio but it tool over 2 months. I bought a second Audio 10 radio and it's been trouble free for several months, no problems. Wouldn't hesitate to do it again.
