Radio Question

After bringing our C320 wagon in for service (about a 2 page list of things ), the car came back with the radio sounding very flat. It has little bass and sounds as though the speaker polarity is reversed. Well, one of things that was done on the car was the ubiquitous A/C motor changeout to get rid of the loud clicking noise. So, in doing this, I assumed parts of the dash were taken apart and maybe the radio connections were somehow disturbed or reinstalled incorrectly. So, I brought the car back to the dealer (I had to wait 2 more weeks for another service appointment ). Well, I get a call later that day saying.."the car is ready to pick up...prpblem fixed". Well, when I get there and ask what the issue was, I got some long winded and inconclusive answer. He told me they had to make some adjustments to the radio "menus". I didnt really have to time to discuss the issue, so I took the car and left. Well, as I am driving home, I noticed the radio sounds a little less "flat", but still not right. So, I start scanning through the settings and I see that all they did was take the bass and crank it all the way up! What a bunch of weasels.

So, I am now basically sick of dealing with these guys (I will not be buying another car from them...bad service (this isnt the first time) and the car has been plagued with too many issues, etc) so I want to just pull the radio out of the dash myself and see if there is something obvious. The radio sounds exactly like one would with incorrect speaker polarity so I am hoping thats all it is. But, I am not sure if there are any special tools required to remove the radio? Does anyone know if it could be a polarity issue, or what other possible solutions might be?

Tone Level Selection??

Maybe the tone level selection is on "Speech" or "Off" instead of "Ambience" position?

Ambience sounds a little better, but it still sounds a little "flat".

Nope, but by the sounds of it I should stay away from there.

My parent had a TV/Stereo shop years ago and I say someone come in and complain that their record player wasn't working correctly. They had one of those records you cut out of a cerial box and they were playing it upside down (cardboard in contact with the needle).

The moral of the story - you can't assume anything.

Try pressing and holding the "AUD" button until the display says "RESET".

It sounds like either a setting or something is actually wrong inside the unit. There aren't too terribly many ways to hook it up in the dash. The plug only only goes in one way. Good luck

OK...so in the back of the radio itself, there is only one plug?

Yes...we have been less than impressed with their whole operation. Every time I bring the car in (going on about 10 times now), at least half of my complaints are given the following repair response on the work order..."Unable to verify customer complaint". They just dont seem to want to take the time to diagnose the problem. I work on cars as a hobby (old Turbo Dodges) so I understand that it takes some effort sometimes to find/fix a problem. It seems these guys just want to slap the scanner on there and see what codes the ECU has thrown and thats it. If the ECU says there are no problems...then apparently there are not problems

DING DING DING! We have a winner!

Problem solved! The radio instantly sounded 100 times better after resetting it. Thanks a bunch!

There are a few, but only one that carries the wires for the speakers and actual unit power and all that stuff. It will only plug in the one way. If it is not plugged in all the way, I would expect the sound to be cutting out entirely.
