Yeah, MB dealer on LI did not know much about this. I have asked if they can put the kit on the 2005 I just ordered... He did find out it is dealer or port of entry option not factory.
Expect my car in end of March so hopefully it will be ready as I did not include the CD changer in the order as iPOD will be much better.
Think I still have the same 6 CD in the 2002 from 3 yrs ago

The 2002 cars have an older audio system. To integrate an Ipod with your system you need the Icelink system from Dension USA. I'm in the process of deciding if I want to do this for my '02 coupe. If I do, I'll let you know how it works.

Yes, the Ice>Link uses your CD changers fiber and power. So you do lose the changer, however, with an iPod most would never use a changer again.
As for what the Ice>Link can do, you can have unlimited playlists and songs.

free Ipod with $40 purchase
On an interesting side note, I found a site that is giving away the 40GB Ipod photo with a $40 purchase of their light up pen.
Once you buy their pen, you get on a list to receive a free Ipod. When 30 pens sell, the next person on the list gets a pod. If I send 30 sales their way, I get the Ipod immediately.
I'm willing to offer up my car as a guinea pig and be a test subject for the IceLink. Once I get a pod, I'm buying the IceLink. I was thinking of adding a CD changer but with an Ipod, I'd have access to many more songs.
I like it even though you can only access the first 6 play lists as CDs.

You can access an unlimited # of playlists. The 5 quick playlist limitation you are thinking of is from the COMAND/Radio mounted keys. Key 6 (CD 6) is reserved for getting into the Ice>Link menu.
Once in the menu you can access ANY playlist on your iPod.

By the way, which LI dealer did you go to? And is that LBC for Long Beach?
