Thanks guys!!! At least I know you guys do like it, thats encouraging. I will try my best to think of more special stuff to develop.
The wiring shall be pretty easy, all you have to do is to run the wire through the screws into the back lining of the trunk. Then get the power from the licence plate lights or the trunk lights (I have to find out which way is easier). It will come with the same colors as the illuminated door sills: blue, aqua, orange, purple, white, red.
I also realized that it will not look as cool when the licence plate lights are shining on top of it, I already have something in my mind to solve it. Let me do more testing. I like the Japanese illuminated licence plate very much too, they have the numbers illumniated!!! I wish we can get them in NA!! But if those illuminated plates do not get "washed out" by the lights above it, I think we should be okay.
It is possible to do it on the front plate, but the problem is it is pretty difficult to hide the wires. My experience tells me MB owners do not like to mess with their car very much. Everything should be bold on.

where to start?
I have no idea what one of those would even go for. I'll wait to see what others say and let you know from there. Do you have figures to let us know how much you have into it? That might be a good place to start. I'll keep my eyes peeled!

i got a license plate holder with sort of a handle. it black and plastic. this allows you to close the trunk without leaving marks on your trunk or using the difficult to use small handle mb provides. i got it from autozone. looks good IMO. i'll get you a pic once i find my camera.

Out Of Control!!
Believe it or not, I got my plain black metal license plate holder at either Target or Walmart. My car is black, so it blends in nice, and gives the plate a nice "finished" look, like it was originally part of the car.
On another note, I've never found that handle to close the truck difficult to use. In fact, I think it works quite nicely.
