For snow, from a much earlier read in Car and Driver, the thought was the skinnier the tire, the better the performance in the snow -- evidently, you don't want a big patch in the snow. Get some smaller steel wheels and snows to use for the 4-5 months you may need them -- protect those alloys for the spring, summer, fall.
This is sound advice. If you have the C7 package, do yourself the favor and perform a minus one conversion to 16" wheels for the winter with proper snow tires. You'll have a much easier time getting through the white stuff. If you don't like the look of plain steel wheels, get some inexpensive alloys to give the vehicle a nice look.

I've gotta agree with Zimmer on this one. When it comes to performance, there's always a trade-off or two.

"Sport" tires have always worn faster than everyday rubber. 15,000 miles on a performance tire has been common for decades... heck, I've seen bike tires go from brand new to worn out over a long weekend; 15,000 miles is an eternity in comparison!
