AUDIO - - - -.........ERROR....please help

This has happened to me twice now. I have been driving along then all of a sudden the below message will show up on my display:

http://www.stlhosting.com/upload/50690158.jpg

When this happens the stereo and the steering wheel controls in relation to the stereo just freeze up, they dont do anything. I cant even turn the stereo off, the volume or down or anything. The display on the Audio 10 itself just displays the track number. If I stop and turn off the engine and take the key out then the sound cuts off but the display still stays on the same track number (even with the key out) which makes me think it is still draining the battery. The only way for me to rectify this is to disconnect the battery and re-connect it again, then everything returns to normal. Does anyone know why this happens?

BTW, I am from the UK and audio 10 comes as standard so its got nothing to do with the fitting. But just as some extra info, about 4 months ago I had a sub and amp installed which run off one of those things that take the signal from the speaker wire (low end frequency converter i think its called).

Thanks in advance for any replies

Hi Ya

Im from croydon in the uk so i know the score with the units I think this is a problem with the fibre optic connections/ system on the car.

Have you tried removing the radio connectors and plugging them back in?

Many Thanks

Neil

The screen you see there is the radio being somehow disconnected from the car. The fiber-optic cable is the right suggestion for the first thing you should check. Fiber optic cables shouldn't be bent very far, else the signal rebounds back in on itself. I'll bet it occured when the amp/sub was installed and the installation guys worked on the radio. I would have them take it apart again, seeing as it was their work that probably caused this (and it takes a good 45 minutes to take it apart and put it back together again).

It could also be some other problem related to the amp/sub installation. I'd try to get the people who put it in first to fix it, then MB to fix it (if possible) but it'll be tricky with the extra audio hardware.

If you need instructions on how to take apart the center console, let me know.
