Flat Badge installation

I just received my flat badge and broke the tips off the actual badge trying to push it into the sleeves on the holder. There were some talk that the flat badge does not actually fit flush. I went to the MB dealer yesterday and looked at the cars that have the flat badge in particular the SLK's and they all fit flush on the hood. I have a 04 C230K sedan and do not want the badge sticking off the hood. I have searched for installation information and found some threads. Can someone who has installed this and it turned out it actually installed flush please respond with where you purchased your badge and the steps you actully did to install it correctly? I have already broke one and don't want to have to replace it again. some of the sellers say it will not fit flush and the SLK's don't either, but they do - I went and looked.

If I remember right, I wasn't able to push the spikes all the way through the holes, but tight enough so that it wouldn't come off. It still sits flush on the hood, so that shouldn't be a problem. I know someone posted install instructions somewhere on the forum...

don't look at the SLK's, look at your model car, and see how they fit.
Where did you buy your flat badge ? eBay ????

get a real MB flat hood badge from MBWerks (Autowerks) with the mounting assembly.
Search these forums, because the topic on installing flat hood badges has been discussed at-nauseum !

When I went to the dealer there are no C230K's with flat emblems. The only ones their with flat emblems were the SLK's. I am trying to find out why some people say there badge fits flush and others say their's does not. I just purchased another one from Jerry at formymercedes.com and hope it will fit flush. I do not want to install this and have 1/4 inch or larger gap. I have my new grille installed but right now still have the upright star. It doesn't look bad but the flat emblem looks better. I did notice there is a flat badge being sold from outside the country that does fit in the recess. The only thing about this one is the color is blue and gold. Here's the Ebay link - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEWA:IT
According to the seller this is 1 7/8 and fits the recess. If this was made with the same color scheme (blue and silver) I would probably get it. The other thing that could be done to the regular emblem is to put bolts coming off the emblem and let the bolts sit in the 2 holes on the holder (instead of the white plastic grommets) then the emblem could be bolted onto the holder.
Any other information on why some for these emblems seem to fit flush and some do not would be appreciated.

Are the holes sized/shaped exactly the same between the hatchback and sedan? Can someone post pics of the holes side-by-side? Does the hatchback use the same exact flat badge kit from the factory that we buy from the dealer or places like formymercedes? I wished the kit came with a metal "badge". The plastic seems cheap/flimsy. The one I had on my old C240 faded after about a year - I got a free replacement from performanceproducts.
