Let's re-visit this topic...I like the humor over here, and everyone is positive But everyone in this thread failed to realise that people from Canada don't face the normal circumstances of going through the MFD to enable or disable DRL's. Like other threads, we'd also like the answer to our problem, as our dealers don't support it because it's "illegal." Personally, I don't want people asking me why I would like them off in the first place, or why it's illegal in my country, etc...It's just my choice, and I want to turn on my lights when I feel like it. So...is there a solution for Canadians to disable their DRL's? Can the car be re-flashed with US firmware? Is there an option in the star diagnostic system to change settings or re-enable that option in the menu? If flashed to US settings, can I still keep the default km/h and celcius instead of fahrenheit? Or is it as simple as pulling a plug or relay? Where is that located for the 2005 models? If I pull the plug, will I get errors on my MFD? I would appreciate straight forward answers to these questions, as you guys have been overwhelmingly friendly on previous occasions, and I hope it's the same.

In Canada the method is to use a hammer and chisel.

I thought DRLs were supposed to be the parking lights only, NOT the headlights. I see many vehicles that have the parking lights on during the day but the only way to do this on the MB, apparently, is manually.

No, AFAIK, DRLs are when the headlights are on, but often at a reduced setting.

The cars that you're talking about must have their lights on position one, for some retarded reason, unless you're confusing parking lights with fogs that people have switched on during the day (used as defacto DRLs).

I do have a question myself, though - I turned on my lights to "CONSTANT" for fun while waiting for someone at the train station last week. The interior lights came on as well - is that correct? I was just wondering if because I have mine set to the NL setting, if that affected things. If not, it's pretty dumb to have DRLs where every light is turned on, not just the headlights.

my DRL is set to constant too and the low beams stay on regardless of the switch position. no fogs, no parking lamps, no interior lamps unless i switch them on manually.

Tommy, when I have mine set to constant with the NL setting I do not get any interior lights unless it gets dark enough. If all of your interior lights came on you were probably in a dark enough location for the headlights to come on to full intensity.

BTW, do you have pics of your car anywhere? I would love to see your interiour and the wheels.

Well, I did some web surfing on DRLs and they come many different ways -- low beams full, low beams partial, high beams partial, and parking lights. Around here, I mostly see people running with parking lights as DRLs.

John, thanks for the information. I'll try it tomorrow during the day.

Hope IL does well in the tourney - it'd be nice to see the Big 10(11) do some damage (PSU alum).

Couple of shots:

You can see the Brabus wheel on that one, and my old Momo knob.

Current knob:

Overall interior:

Will be changed up soon enough with my new Recaro seat, when that gets in.

John, just to update this, you were right - the interior lights and full intensity come on when the sensor determines that it's dark enough. You win a prize to be determined later.

I wonder if there's any way to disable that, short of removing the sensor. I hate it when it's dark enough to turn everything on, but it's not really necessary, like dusk. Oh well - can't have everything, I guess. Thanks again!

Check your light sensor bearing grease. If it's less than a tsp full, you'll get this obscene behavior.

Hey I take offence to that.....what do you think it's sooo cold here everything needs a hammer and chisel to chip it out of the ice??????

Far better to use a hair dryer - it doesn't scratch.

can you actually turn DRL off in Canada also with a simple change in the cluster menu?

if yes, then I'm amazed. on my W202 I have to change half of the car to get rid of my DRLs (I did not find any clear how-to on that yet)
