Do you ever have something better to post? I am getting sick and tired of this ***** as much as threads like this. In fact I found this kinda repsonse/link far worst than anything the newbies post. Go get a life man...if you dont bother replying the newbies then simply dont.
Ok Benz222, to answer your question, I have both 04 and 05, I am not sure what improvement there is, they both feel and drive the same. More info should be able to achieve by searching the forum from previous posts.
-Now this is the way how you as an "so-experienced" user who knows so well how to STFF should tell the newbies.

The Answer to the question is NO there is no difference in the automatic transmition. Its the same. What you might have heard is that the 06 C350 will come out with a 7 speed auto but as far as the 05 its the same.
P.S. I also hate people who just put a link or refer you for a search. I think if you want to help people then help them but if a simple question pisses you off because someone already asked it and the search tool wasnt used then you have issues. Maybe anger managment class can help. Wax on Wax off people.

2005 C230 SS
Auto Trans
I just got a 2005 C230 SS about 8 weeks ago and from my experience the auto transmission is much inproved from the 2004. Keep in mind that I am not talking about the 2004.5 since I have never driven one. My buddy has a 2004 C230 SS with an auto transmission and we switched cars for a ride and he even noticed that the transmission felt a lot more responsive and smoother. It took me a while to get used to my auto transmission, but once you master it and get a feel for it it's great. I love it... That is my feedback...hope it helps

2002 C230 Coupe(M111)
Maybe it has the earlier software update installed at the factory in the 05
?
So you don't have to go back to the dealer after complaining it won't downshift
