Question Brakepads Service - Reccomendations?

Hey guys/gals,

My '03 C230 Sedan just started with the "Brakepad Wear" warning message. Can anyone reccomend a place in Orange County where I should take the car to for service? Or should I just take it to a dealership?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

My guess is the dealer will charge you about $200 for pads/sensors and labor but that includes a loaner. Don't think you'll find it for terribly less and I would be suspicious if you did. If cost in an issue, buy the pads and sensor (about $100), get the rotors turned (about $25) and do the work yourself. You can save a few bucks with cheap aftermarket pads but I wouldn't. I personally used Porterfield pads and MB of LN will install them but they cost more than the factory pads.

Any good independent MB shop can do this with no trouble. I doubt there's much to be gained by turning the rotors. Either leave them alone or replace them with OE rotors IF they measure too thin. Ask your shop to use genuine OE pads - in the long run they'll be less trouble than many non-OE pads. If your rotors have to be replaced this time, the total job will probably be over $400. But measure them first and compare that measurement with the "minimum thickness" specification stamped on the rotor itself. If they're not below that minimum, leave them alone. You don't need to go to a dealer unless it's a lot more convenient.

Are you anywhere near Huntington Beach? I know Hans Imports there (on Talbert) is a very capable shop. I'm rather new in O.C. and don't really know any other good workshops.
