I've put 98K miles on my '98 Crown Vic patrol car and it has only been in the shop THREE times! Pretty good for a Ford. Once it wouldn't stay running without keeping your foot on the gas pedal (fuel pump?). Once it had to have a bracket welded onto the rear suspension due to a recall. And the cheap plastic air intake manifold had to be replaced due to a hairline crack (apparently happens to all of them). It still drives like new My department has switched to FWD Impala's. YUCK!

If nothing else, you also have some form of control at BOTH ends of the car. This may help reduce the incidence of spinning the car around a curve or corner..

I work in Addison, TX. They do use alot of SUVs for cruisers, but all I've seen to date are Ford Explorers/Excursions. Wouldn't doubt that they have an M-Class or two, though. I'll have to watch more closely...

My philosophy is to stay away from cops as much as possible... But I know from own experience that the swedish law enforcement officers drive Volvo S/V70, Saab 9-5, VW and Chevy Vans (those cops in the vans are the meanest!) or BMW motorcycles (those are pretty mean too!).

Kinda OT, but most of our ambulances are W210s.
