Red face 2008 C Class

Hey,

Obv. I'm new to the site. I joined because I've truly become an MB enthusiast. I love reading up on the latest news, and you guys definitely have a lot of information on this site!

Well, I currently drive a 2005 C230 Kompressor Sport Sedan. It's nice and all, but (unlike many of you ) I really like the new 08's and am very seriously considering purchasing one. I would just like to know.. what are the disadvantages of pre-ordering the car, it being from one of the "first batches" and all? I actually already called the dealer about it, but I would like to know whether this is a good idea or not.

If I did run into any problems, I'm assuming MB would be responsible for them, right?

I have so much to learn! Please help me out, lol.

I often question the perception about the "first batch" of a new model car tends to have "more problems". We always hear new model cars have more problems because there were more new owners posting their issues to a discussion forum when they got their new cars.
I read the C-class test started since 2003 , it must have been driven a million miles before they were in real production. Most of these "problems' are some quality control issues of individual component, and these problems are often showing up within months and always get replaced under warranty. Unlike BMW, Merc has seldem changed the detailed specification of their new models, so this is a less worry. My major worry is still the 350 model is still "under power" ( ~270hp )comparing to the BMW 335i (302hp), so I am not sure if Merc will give an engine power upgrade to the 350 in 2008. If we are getting the lower-end models, I think the power is already upgraded over the W203.
