Waste of moeny

Its 3am in Florida. I appologize for this ramble.

So far, from what ive read/heard/seen. This is by far the biggest waste of money Ive ever known MB to throw out.

This is the most tested car ever. That cost moeny.
This is a new design for the C class. That cost money.
The advertising the're going to do. That cost money.

They are saving some money on the interior

I dont think the car will sell. Mercedes has revamped thier line, by comfoming to more modern cars. I think they should do a throw back series. Bring out soem of the nice older models. Modernize them alittle. Keep is classic.

Dont even get me started on the "command" system. You can get a nicer system in a sebring.

Since when do MB owners whine about investing in the development and engineering that goes into a new model. It used to be that MB didn't do enough, now they have to make up for the last 10 years of low'er' quality cars. The w123, w124, w126, w201 were some of the last cars that had almost unlimited funds for development, and that is why they are regarded as some of the best ever built... and you think that what MB has done with their best selling model series is a "waste"?

Its going to sell because its a Mercedes Benz. So, for the people who don't want, or cant afford the E class. Yes, they will have to buy the new style. But, if you look at all the other theads, most people are going for the 335i or another car of similar kind.

Sorry for the comand error. I dont know much about it, nor how it was spelled.

I dont disagree with spending money on the development and engineering of a car. By all means, do as necessary. But, for it to be the most tested car ever, why is there still wind noise coming from the mirrors? If thats true.

Also, the design looks like as a journalist said, "The new "S" class, only its a lower case "s"

The C class is basically an entry level MB. Its supposed to be on the smaller end or roomy and sporty. IMO

I'm just not overly impressed. However I am anxiously waiting for April 3rd.

Lets get some more opnions on this.
Is the end result of the new C really worth all it took to get there?

If they brought the C in diesel form to the US I would seriously consider one, but this wind noise issue has been new news to me. That is odd. I remember seeing an article on the C216 development and how they used acustic dummies to act as "ears" in the car during wind testing, I would have figured they would have done as much in the new C if they were going to all of the other extremes.

As far as styling, I think it is great looking and it is a lower case s just as much as the 190E was to the w126. They are similar but not identical, it is called brand recognition/style and it doesn't bother me. The w140 looks like a bloated w124, but I like it

I don't think people should "jump to conclusions" until the thing gets in the hands of some of the members, or has time on the road.

i didn't like the way this car looked at first, but it's grown on me. it looks very classy for an entry level model, and it's just begging to be dropped with a nice set of wheels. the rear looks too much like a japanese model, they should have continued the theme of the slightly more square lights like the front.
i'm sure it will sell well, people who want a luxury car in that price range would rather buy a new-look 3 series or any of a number of the luxury cars that have all been refreshed recently, like the A4, G35, lexus IS, etc., rather than a c class that they've been seeing on the road for the last 7 years.

Does nothing for me. To me the interior is a step backwards and is "Lexus" like. The front end styling also appears to be a Japanese text book design and I've had nothing buy japanese cars since 1970. Not saying it's not a good design, it just does nothing for me. If I wanted a Japanese looking car, I would have purchased a Lexus or Infiniti. IMHO the 06/07 C class interiors look better and have a more "upscale" appeal but who am I to say; I just purchased my first Benz

I agree with you on the 05-07 interiors. They look very classy in my opinion, the new one will have to be seen in person. Most cars do look better in person, so hopefully this will be one of them--much like the W221 S-Class turned out to be alright in person.

To PhilipM3, you mention the looks of the S-Class as a problem. While I agree that the new S-Class' style has been controversial, there is nothing wrong with a car company having a homogenous design theme. There was an article with Bruno Sacco (long time chief of MB design department) in Mercedes Enthusiast recently and he talked about something, I can't remember what he called it, but maybe something like "vertical design integration" or something along that line--meaning that you want all of your models to have a familiar face while being their own unique car. IMO the W203 resembles a W220 S-Class far more than the W204 resembles the W221. The new C has that character line along the side that the S does not have, the tail lights and trunk are completely different, and the front is not the same except for the more upright angular grille.

Btw, Bruno Sacco was behind the design of the W220 S-Class, which is the most beautiful car ever designed in my opinion.

converstaion like this one actually happened back in 2000 when the w203 was about to come out. History repeats... as long as it's for a good reason, no worry.

BMW 330i
The new C promises to be the least powerful and slowest car in its class. Combine that with it probably being the most expensive and I think that you will have a recipe for disaster.

I'm trying to like the new C but the carryover engines will not get me into the fold. Not when BMW has 300hp and infinity will have 330hp. MB reminds me of Audi. If there isn't an AMG bag on it (C Class only), expect it to be an underpowered and slow compared to the competition. Audi is the same way with the A4, If there isn’t an “S” or an “RS” before the “4”, then expect to lose plenty of races.

Well they will update the engines in a few years, I guess if they are getting killed in sales, the engine updates will come sooner than expected.

There is nothing wrong with the S class. There amazing. Stunning, brilliant, and back massages at 130mph+ is never a bad thing. I believe the S has seats that sooth. I could be wrong.

No one is going to know for sure how well the c class will do until it come out, gets driven, gets rated, and then breaks.

Everyone has their opinions. Everyones will change at least a little once they see/drive/hear the new car, MB, BMW, Audi whatever it is.

BTW "command" is "COMAND".

I'll admit I always turned a blind eye to the C-class. I never cared for them. The 204 has me thinking about getting one now..and you're right. I can get a new C instead of spending my money on a used E. high five!!
