very true .. however, an average american person is not interested in high-tech toys .. he/she is interested in big engine, leather seats and simple but effective navigation system.
one would buy a car if it has a sticker says: 500 hp monster engine .. premium leather seats and state of the art navi system that can take you from your garage to your work with a touch of a button.
so MBUSA should stop acting like a Ford/GM .. it should change that image. untill then, steve is there for the rescue.

I think average Joe is more technical savvy then someone thinks. All my redneck type friends are very excited about voice command of Lexus when you can easily say "bring me to the nearest pub", instead of turning small knob using their big fingers. The problem that MB doesn't feel confident with newest electronics and want to protect themselves against tons of claims that system doesn't work as expected. European customers are more loyal to technical problems and generally ignore them. For MB is much simpler put a huge engine delivering hundred ponies then create sophisticated reliable electronics. Of course they protect themselves telling like average American customer doesn't need that and lose market share to BMW, Lexus and other Japanese makers.

Is it just me, or is the voice control shown in that video FAR superior to that in the S-Class? I drive an S550 and I'm fairly certain I cannot make all of those navigation entries with voice prompts, let alone have my text messages read back to me. How dissapointing!!!

Well I for one stumped the new Nav system when I took the car for a test drive. I went through about saying NEXT 10 times before I said cancel and new route. This is what I said . PLease select say state :NORTH CAROLINA, pick selection from list: ONE , city : RALEIGH , did you say raleigh:YES say street name: Capital Boulevard select from list ??????? from then on it could not give me Capital Boulevard on the list and the sales guy did not know why. He said I was the first guy to make it not work correctly. The nav was great(when working ok) and sound was great but $2400 for the pakage I rather get a Garmin or other Nav system with normal non-reactable 5" screen and place it on the right hand side of the radio facing the driver. I can use the radio and see the nav when driving. There is a big cap from the front fo the dash to the radio which sits pretty deep.

The W204 Voice Control is the best Mercedes has come up with. It even is more advanced than the S-Class in that you can say entire street/town names instead of spelling them out. Does anyone know if the SMS readout is available on the US COMAND?
