Luxury vs. Sport

First time MB Buyer here...

I was seriously considering going with the C300 Luxury because of the interior wood trim, but I saw the Sport model and really liked the look of it. Dealer says I can get a Sport with Bird'e Eye Maple interior rather than the standard Sport trim that I am not crazy about. Anyone have a pic of what that interior may look like?

Any other significant differences between the Sport/Luxury models (besides transmission and appearance)? Has anyone seen the two together?

I'm in the market to order, but am hesitant to order the Sport without looking at the Luxury.

Well for me I would take the Sport because I love aggressive looking cars and
I love cars with visible exhaust.

Sport

Sport and Luxury side by side

Thanks. I agree it is sportier which is why I liked it when I saw it.

I was just expecting to be buying a more conservative car when I decided on MB (I'm trading up from the sports car I've got now).

I hear luxury models mights be in as early as Aug 1...anyone know if that is the case?

I may be complete wrong, but last I read the C300 came with aluminum and the C350 with the black birdseye maple. I don't think the wood is optional in the C300. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Well the dealer told me that he thought it the C300 sport had a wood trim option. I've seen a lot of postings saying Black Birdseye Maple was the option, but maybe that is just because it is the standard trim in the 350.

Dealer seemed to think Piano Black Lacquer was the trim..

i hope there is a wood trim option in the 300 sport...i just don't like the aluminum.

That is why i was considering the luxury model.

Are you sure about this? I have seen nothing indicating this. I hope that is the case, I love the Black Bird's Eye maple, I think Alumnium trim looks cheap in cars.

Here are a few pictures of a C350 Sport with the trim:

^ Bird's Eye Maple looks so good. So the C350 does have memory seats; that looks good. Does anybody know the 4 soft buttons on the center of the dashboard - 1 is the rear-blind sunshade, does anybody know what the other 2 are? I HATE empty buttons!

The first button is for the advanced agility package it will say sport. The second button is for the rear sunshade. Third is for parktronic which we dont get. I'm not sure about the last button.

He said it was an option and even built me one on the system with wood trim...

Of course all of that could change when i go to place the order.

I also think the aluminum is not the greatest look for this car...perhaps in the coupe to come, but not in a sedan. Just my opinion though, some people love it.

I just checked with my dealer yesterday and he gave me this new C commercial book that says

Aluminum
(C 300 Sport only)

Burl Walnut
(C 300 Luxury only)

Black Birdseye Maple
(C 350 Sport only)

and nothing about C 350 Luxury in the book, or is there even going to be one?

I may certainly be wrong, but here is the deal with the ordering system. When they select C300 or any model in NetStar (which is their build/inventory system) they can see all the options, colors and everything available for that class. What they have to do next, and should do if they are a good sales rep is perform a "plausibility test" which is when the computer checks the car you have built and makes sure that all options are correct for the model selected. For example, burl walnut cannot be selected on a C350. The computer will come back and tell you where the faults lie which then need to be corrected and then the order can be submitted.

My suspicion is that what your sales rep did was build the car and did not perform the plausibility test. He could have even printed out the sheet for you to look at, but that doesn't mean he performed the test.

No there will not be a C350 luxury sedan for MY 2008 in the USA. The C350 Sport Sedan will be RWD only, no 4Matic available. Let's hope these rediculous errors are changed in the near future.

well that could explain it...i really couldn't say what process he used.

i'm now thinking he'll get me in on the 300, then upsell me the 350 just for the wood trim.

i think i'm now leaning toward the luxury anyway now. saw some pics of it in white and really liked the looks of it.

Sure, and, my dealer told me that "memory seats were an option".

My brochure does not list black birdseye as an option and it does not list memory seats as an option.

No memory seats - means no sale for me. I do have a wife who "might" want to drive this car and she will not like having to fiddle with the seat every time she drives and I won't like fiddling with it after she drives either. What is so hard for MB to understand about this?

Brochure?

<<My brochure does not list black birdseye as an option and it does not list memory seats as an option.>>

Brochure? You have a brochure? My dealer has nothing. Just the damned car and it has no owner's manual.

All this to and fro in re: memory seats, yes or no, is taking the shine off this whole process. My '85 190E (worst car I ever owned) had seat memory even though the powered seats were an option in those days.

Have I mentioned today that MBUSA is run by numskulls? Consider it said.

Yeah I don't understand why they wouldnt have memory seats, at least an option. The 1,2,3, on the door is a Mercedes tradition. Mercedes needs to fix this for the 2009 model year along with the agility package and new engines.

If you scroll up to posting #9 above, and look at the uploaded photos, it shows the memory seat buttons on the door trim ( 1,2,3 and M). So i dont understand why people say there are no memory seats.

In the Australian market, i went to the car launch and in certain models, electric memory seats and steering wheel were standards ( just not in the entry level model C class). In fact for our market, the C 280 (equivalent to US C300?) has the following as standard : 7 speed auto transmission, parktronic (F & R), tire pressure loss monitor, auto dimming and folding mirrors, 7" monitor, Comand system with DVD and Sat Nav and linguatronics, plus full leather.

The options list is also quite extensive with normal or panoramic sunroof, Harmon Kardon Logic 7 450W 12 speakers sound system upgrade, active bi xenon lights with headlight washers, electric rear blinds, Thermotronic for rear, heated front seats and keyless Go to name a few.

MB Tex, for an idea of what different trims look like, you can check out this link (for australian market) and spec your car up with diff exterior and interior colours and wheels to get an idea....

Once in page, go to bottom right where it saids "C Class webspecial" and click on that. Warning: high speed internet access required....have fun !
