Electronic Speed Limit

So I’m very pleased with my new c350 (well, other than the fact that I could not get the keyless go ‘cause it’s not available in the US, and there is no parking assistance also i.e. backup camera or sensors) but I think this is the most beautiful car in this category (by far), which make me forget about what’s lacking.

Anyways… I have read that the car is limited to 130 mph… is this true even for the 350? cause that seems to me on the very low end for a 270hp car.

Edit: OK.. I just googled it and it seems it is also limited to 130mph... do you think the dealer (or anyone) is able to remove that governor?

You can get the Quick Park ($450.00) and its a dealer installed option. Not the full park assistant but uses sensors to help with parking.

Honestly I don’t know? I think it has something to do with the tires having to be the Z rated 18” AMG’s I have these wheels on my C300 and about two weeks ago I got on it and when I let off the LCD read 131 mph, I only let off because it wasn’t safe to proceed, the car had plenty left it seemed at that point and was pulling like a freight train. I believe there is a govt mandated limiter on all US cars where the car cannot exceed the factory OEM equipped tire rating. My assumption whether you have a C300 or C350 if you have Z rated contis you have a 155 limiter if you have the H rated tires or 17” wheels you are limited to 130. Don’t quote me but it makes sense. At some other point I will try to run it again and see if I can get higher than 131, but after that one I good for a while.

a quarter mile at a time
AFAIK, the C-class is limited at 130. Most aftermarket ECU companies remove this limit

I wouldn’t make sense to limit the top speed based on the wheels and tires. It is the driver’s responsibility not to exceed the tires top speed. Besides, what if I upgrade my wheels, I get a higher limit? Doesn’t make sense. Anyways, let us know if you break the 130mph mark (131mph doesn’t count) by the way, I have 17” AMG, which are not the same as the 17” on a c300.

About that quickpark, I asked at my dealer about parking assist and they told me that it was just not available and it could not be installed on my car. They told me that the only way of getting parking assist was having an aftermarket one installed BY SOMEONE ELSE, which I obviously rejected. Any information on the quickpark will be very helpful to me. Thanks.

Limiter

I'm not going to quote any posts because there is so much confusion about why the 130mph limit.

First, the wheel diameter has absolutely nothing to do with the question. It's the tire speed rating. H rated tires are limited to 130mph. Mercedes installs H-rated tires on most models (because they are cheaper and have longer lives than V or Z-rated) and those cars have electronic limiters. Both the 17" wheels and 18" wheels with stock tires have the same number of revs per mile.

My C320 came with H-rated tires and at about 133mph indicated it's all done. Without the limiter, it will eventually reach 153mph.

So, why H-rated tires? Because when the 1992 model 140 S-Class was introduced it was equipped with Z-rated tires and for some mad reason they were included in the warranty. So, when the front tires were bald at 12K miles, MB had to replace them on their own nickel. It didn't help that the front end components were under engineered and wouldn't hold alignment. Of course, the model 140 had so many other designed in defects, the front end problems paled into insignificance. I won't even go into the diesel model or the AC problems.

So, MB's answer to the 140 tire problem was to switch to cheaper harder tires (H) and that spread across the model lines.

The whole car was such a warranty disaster that the 140 Chief Engineer was banished to Malaysia to run a truck plant.

I have standart conti W rated on my E class and limiter set to 155mph. Just had a chance to verify yesterday. It is funny that sport package reduces limit to 130mph. So I am not sure if it is the deal of reducing production cost or something else. I think you can upgrade tires and disable limiter at aftermarket ECU companies as it was already mentioned.

1)the dealer ship will take the governor off for you.

2) who ever you are speaking to at the dealer about the parking sensors doesnt have a clue what they are talking about.

call and ask them to mail you an accessories pamphlet for the new c class and they are in there, hence the way i got mine.

if they question the reason for the governor.
tell them it for track use.
they did not question two of my colleges.

good luck
