OK So I put 3,996 songs on my card, but the system is only displaying the first 40 directories from the root in alphabetical order. So I've got A-L. It was structured by
\
-\Artist Name
--\Album Name
---\01 Track Name.mp3

I will play around with the file structure, I'm thinking to precede the directory structure with Genre, and see if that will make more songs or less available.

does your root have more than 255 files and folders?

OK So I'm pretty sure there is a 255 limit (Possibly 240?) on the total number of folders. I had 3,996 files on my card arranged by /artist/album/00 track name.mp3 with 396 folders.

It appears to read through all the top level folders, then recurses into sub directories, and "blank" directories count (ie if you have 200 directories, and all your music is in a sub directories of each directory, then you will end up with about 40 directories available)

I figured it would be comparable to the FAT filesystem limit that each folder can only have 255 folders, but then each of those folders can have 255 folders, etc. but apparently the MM system builds some kind of index, and appears to scan 240 directories before it quits.

I've rearranged what's on my card to 227 directories and 3,450 files. I'll check in a few if it can read the entire card or if it is still cutting short.

No, there was 170 folders in the root directory and no files.

OK still missing files..

2,105 files in 131 folders are currently available within 45 directories from the root directory.

There are 72 directories in the root directory.

EDIT: I'm starting to get a suspicion the limitation is 2,000 songs and I'm just not getting a completely accurate count by counting which directories were available from the car than counting the files in those directories once the card is back in the computer. I'm completely removing all directories below 1 level, and keeping the file count and I'll see if there's a major improvement in availability, or minimal results.

OK So I've got 2,035 files available in 122 directories, using a new 16GiB Card, and 10.1GiB. I'm going to state for the record that 8GB is probably the biggest CF you would want to buy.

and I would pair it with a 8gb card from here http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159043
after I've tried out that the adaptor works with a 1gb card I have lying around.

I'll update how I get on once it all arrives.
Everything works fine and I finally got around to ripping the wallets of CD's that were being carried around

However the 'sandisk' CF adaptor ordered from the link above looks slightly suspect to me, but I'm not too bothered as it works fine, so far (fingers crossed!)

I have bought a Transcend pcmcia adapter and Transcend 2gb CF 133x card.
But i got a few problems with it....
The system shows that there aint no playable files....
I have format it to fat16 and fat32. Both didnt helped.
Also tried ID3-tag to v1.0 and v1.1 and this didnt worked either

Are there some other options i can try?

Are your files MP3 format? If so, what is their bitrate. Your adapter and card are fine.

The new version of the 6-in-1 PC Card Adapter DOES support SDHC, trust me I have it (I will try to post a pic). It shows 6 icons on the card and it shows the SDHC right on the card. Also Sandisk has just released a 8gb SDHC memory card.

Here are the pics for the sandisk 6-in-1 reader I have been talking about that sandisk says they DON't have. Notice the SD-HC icon on the card.
I've beenlooking for this updated 6-in-1 card adapter all over the place and I can't find it. where can I get it?

Yes, if you have configured iTunes to convert songs to MP3 instead of AAC (or did some later models support aac too).

This is what I've done and I cannot see where the confusion could come from and why is this approach antiquate when you are not limited to one single card type, even future memory card models can be used with an appropriate adapter (from the future).

for those using an PCMCIA -> SD adaptor, and don't already have a built-in SD reader, i'd recommend getting a SanDisk Ultra II SD Plus USB 4GB ($30 from Amazon or $13 from Ebay).

I can confirm that the OE Benz adapter works just fine with SDHC cards.......
I buy from Amazon re-sellers all the time. I haven't had any more (or less) problems with them than I've had with any other internet vendors.

Recently I came to know that there is a website named AmazingWatcher.Com which is a free website that will “watch” items for you on Amazon and let you know when amazon has them in stock at regular retail price. It got so awesome!
Good luck everybody!http://www.amazingwatcher.com

C32 andy - Not sure on that one, but I got this one and it works perfectly:
http://cgi.ebay.com/SDHC-SD-MS-to-PC...51768732165261

The one that came in the mail had a different sticker than the picture, and didn't say SDHC on it, but adpaterbest (seller) ensured it would work. And it does. Got a 16GB no name SDHC card from ebay for $20.

inkredibul - I did the DVD thing for a while, but for some reason the disc would be unreadable every now and then, and it was really annoying because I had to eject the disc then re-insert. Sounds easy enough, I guess I'm just lazy, haha.
