Second Recall
I just received my second recall for my 2008 C300 4Matic Sports Model. According to the letter from MBUSA, the hood emblem does not meet the safety requirements set forth by the NHTSA in the event a pedestrian is hit by the car.
The letter read on to say that I would be contacted by MBUSA in December and that the solution would be to change the emblem with a solid emblem or to add a piece of plexiglass to the emblem.
At first I though this was a joke and I misread the letter, but I read it over and over again and it is real.
Has anyone else received this letter?

Since the Sport model doesn't have a hood emblem, what exactly are they referring to? They can't be referring to the big star in the grille because that's not part of the hood.
The letter wasn't from Nigeria, was it?
My Luxury model has the same flexible Star MB has used for decades.

I have seen the cars with distronic use a flat star in the center of the grill, its almost holographic in design, looks clean. Not sure how much it would differ in an accident with a person from the one already installed though? Sounds more like they are refering to the star on top of the hood, but as mentioned above it gives way if you put any pressure on it and Sport models don't come with the raised star anyways.

Well that doesn't make much sense.
Maybe the OP can call the dealership and get a better explaination as to what they're want to change.
Hope its not the star in the grill. They'd have to fight me over that.

Thats the one I was refering to, I believe its because of the distronic cruise control, but I may be wrong. I have seen that grill on the CL, S, SL, and GL with distronic as an option. I like it too..the star is sort oh holographic. Maybe if you get buddy buddy with the service guys you can get your old grill back..so you could put it on yourself if you dont like the new one.

only one recall thus far
Well, the NHTSA only lists one recall in the two months the car is available
That is for rear outboard seatbelts. Apparently, if you use seatbelts to anchor your kid's carseat (but not the LATCH system), those seatbelts might fail and, as Mercedes puts it in its acknowledgment, "injury could result". Gee, failure of seatbelts, do you think?
Well, its only one. I'm sure Kia has the same record.
Meanwhile, nothing listed on a recall for the front ornament. Maybe a TSB? Maybe a hoax?

There are 3 service bulletins on the C though. These are voluntary notices by the manufacturer. Does the maker just deal with them when you bring the car in for service, or only if you complain? Any ideas?
