50+mpg for 2009
Is this article true and will these models come to the US?
Bluetec E-Classes will arrive in European showrooms from December, and now Mercedes has revealed the technology will go into the C-Class from 2009. Two models will be available, a C250 returning 57.7mpg fuel economy, and a C300 hybrid with 61.4mpg. |
I saw that information as well, but nobody from MB is commenting on the US market. I would love to test drive one of the new Bluetech C's!

MB had hoped to expand Bluetec from the E into the other CDI models (ML, GL, R) for 2008 as well as adding a C Bluetec. Now it seems the C will be delayed until 2009, coming in as a 2010 model. It was to be nearly identical to the vision C Bluetec shown earlier this year, based on the C220 CDI sold in Europe.

Diesel C
Just last week one of our local MBUSA reps told me that when a diesel C shows up here as an '09 model, it will be a four cylinder. Well, 2.2 diesels have already been reviewed in the Euro mags and the 2.2 is not very satisfactory. Noisy and slow. Why we can't have the sold-everywhere-else C V-6 Bluetec is still a mystery to me.
Sinking feeling. |
I remember Auto Motor und Sport ranked the C220 first in its class, and from personal experience it has more than adequate power for the US market.

C220d
<<Sorry, but that's plain garbage. (I'm in the UK, BTW)>>
Seeing as how you bought one, there's just the tiniest chance...... I suggest you go to germancarzone.com, go to forums and then C-Class and read it for yourself. |
Are you sure you are referring to the latest revision of the 220 engine that came out this year? It is much more powerful, quieter, and more economical than the previous version. I have had the pleasure of trying one and I can say it is by no means noisy or slow.

Well, here's another vote for the 220 CDI - I wish we could buy it here today. It would have been my first choice, if I had the choice to make.
|
I don't know if I would have ended up buying it, but I sure would have given it every considereration. Diesel seems like a much more sustainable technology to me then the hybrid tech, which only looks good if you ignore the beginning and the end of the lifecycle.
|
the diesels aside, what's the word on new gasoline engines for the 2009 C - will the new direct injection motors be in the 2009 C?

It should not be a mystery, if Phil Smart had an E320 and a C320 sitting side by side and the C was about $15000 cheaper, who in their right mind would buy the E320? It would be the end of the E diesel in the US.

Although the problem with the 200 is that it is just a detuned 220, it is the same engine, but with no real gain in fuel economy.
true but in Norway the c200 is about 60,000 Nok cheaper, this means you can tick more option box's, if you spend about 10,000 Nok with Carlsson for a CD20 Power Box you get all the missing hp's back. |
