Rear Fog Light

I got my C350 yesterday and just realized that there is only 1 rear fog light (on the driver side only), not 2. Can anyone confirm?

That's standard for most European cars, AFAIK.

One rear fog light is standard. If you have two, some people may mistake that for brake lights.

yes, benzes have only one (as do most european cars as others stated). my parents' jaguar s-type has two, but they seem to be smaller bulbs (but still bright) than the one on our benz.

PLEASE do not be one of those people who drives with the rear fog lamp on when it's not needed - it's really bright and very distracting when driving behind.

People get a big kick out off pointing out to me that "only one" break light is working. (on a Mercedes-Benz)

The one light is a bit confusing, but the rear fog light is very effective in real fog to make your car visible. Love them.

I agree. If you own a Mercedes Benz, you will know there is only one distinguish rear fog from brake, and other people might just say one of your rear fog light is not working. some of my friends did.

I think it's a great safety feature, but I think it should be deleted for USDM usage. I won't say any names but around were I live there are lot's of young people that like to drive used 4-6 year old high-end luxury cars and think it's cool to drive around all year long in sunny northern California with the rear fog lamp on as someone else mentioned, it is highly annoying and distracting if it's not used properly.

C3004Matic Sport, Blk on Blk, Pano, P1, MMC, Ipod
and on the left.

I think by design it has to be on the left, so you know where the car ahead is. If its on the right, and you need to pass (say, in a panic-stop overbreaking), you may end up hitting the car rather than avoiding it. That is, by knowing where the car ahead roughly is, based on the left fog light, you know the rough area where not to go. Move the fog light over 4 or 5 feet and any close calls will be direct hits.

Thanks, my Audi and BMW has two fog lights, so I just wanted to make sure that the MB has only one.

I use only the rear fog lights when people tailgated me.

AFAIK, the rear fog light is placed on the respective driver's side.

That has been my observation too. Most cars (with a single rear fog light) have it on the left side. But British models have it on the right side. I think it has something to do with them driving on the wrong side of the road.

I find it extremely useful specially where I live. In Miami.Florida there hardly ever fog. In this town what we have is alot of run you over type of drivers. Driver who are behind you so close when you drive. Trying to jump over you if you could. I use it alot to warn other drivers when there to close to me . They back when i turn it on.I seen many older folks too drive with them on. And when it dark at noght raining i turn the on.

You are the cause of many accidents on the road. Rear fogs in the rain? Stick a 125 mW laser pointer in my eye, why don't ya?

At night time i seen many other mercedes with the rear fog on light on the rear. It not a laser so powerful it does not blind you at all. I just a brighter light i would not call it a fog light .Just a brighter rear light. ill say 10 watt brighter then the other rear light not a big deal.

Correct me if I am wrong here...

I believe the brake lamps are typically 5W (i.e., 7528 bulbs), whereas the rear fog lamps are 21W (i.e., 7506 bulbs).

Rear fogs

<<I think it's a great safety feature, but I think it should be deleted for USDM usage. Those are the BMW drivers. Lights on 24 hours. Must be a carryover from the their previous Saturns.

But, the rear fog cannot be on unless the front fogs are on and that requires that the parking lights (or headlights) be on.

And that's because the headlight knob must be pulled out to the second stop to illuminate the rear fog.

As or me, I have converted all of my past MBs with them to additional brake lights by adding another bulb on the right (if not already present) and a couple of wires on the circuit board. The rear fog is disabled so if the light switch is pulled out to the second stop, the bulb out warning comes on which requires a reboot to extinguish. Works for me.

Can confirm that there is only 1 rear fog lamp on the driver's side! At first I thought there was a manufacturing defect when the right was not as bright as the left. I read the manual and it confirmed only the driver's side has a rear fog lamp.

Left hand drive cars have it on the left. Right hand drive cars have it on the right. Unlike the W203, W204s do not have a separate bulb or filament for the rear fog. The left inner taillight bulb has only one filament, operating at reduced voltage to match the brightness of the left half of the unit and when the rear fog switch is activated, that filament gets the full 12V, increasing it's brightness.

Too complicated for it's own good, in my opinion.
