One thing I noticed about the fuel economy screen is that after I've reset it, it takes quite a few miles before it stabilizes at 30 mpg. This is with the cruise control set on 70ish on fairly flat roads. On my previous vehicle, it'd get there within the first quarter mile.
Anyone else finding similar behavior?

Atsobe,
I think my gage is probably showing closer to what you are getting.
The only logical conclusion is that it somehow bases the calculation in part to your previous fuel economy so that it'll read on the conservative side.
As far as break in is concerned, I'm a bit over 4,000 miles. I think it really does take about a thousand miles for fuel economy to reach the point where you can get 30 mpg.
For my display to show 30 mpg, I think I have to drive somewhere between 45 minutes and an hour.

I found that if you speed up to 100 mph, and let your foot off the gas, you'll get about 100 miles per gallon! j/k
Seriously though, I'm pretty impressed with these mileage figures everyone is posting. If you can get anywhere near 30 mpg, then you're doing pretty good. My minivan does good if I can get 21 on the highway, I was very disappointed in it. My camry wagon got 33 on the highway. My Miata got 27 on the highway which is funny because my 06 corvette gets 28 on the highway and 21 around town.
so if the c-class can get anywhere between 20 and 30 mpg, I would consider that successful. A comfortable, yet sporty vehicle that gets "almost" as good of gas mileage (and in some cases better) than some 4 bangers and carries 5 people is really pretty good.
