C300 Trunk Lip Spoiler
Has anyone tried adding the Lip Spoiler to their C300? I've heard people say that 3rd party lip spoilers looks different and not as nice as the factory ones. Can anyone recommend one?

Thing to remember is the o.e.m. lip spoiler you can order from your dealer comes unpainted at a $394 dollar price tag. Add to that the cost of painting and the cost they will charge to install it. Or you can get an after market lip spoiler (although not identical to the o.e.m.) for $289 already painted (might have to add some for shipping) but will easily come in under the price to have the o.e.m. lip spoiler painted and installed. The lip spoiler is just stuck on with tape, so if your comfortable doing such things you can save your self the money on the install. It's all up to you on what you like the best, I don't like the lip spoiler on the back myself, even the factory installed one on the C350 comes off looking like something someone forgot to put on and then just stuck it on with tape, doesn't flow with the trunk lines.

Thanks Chilled.
I didn't realize the factory spoilers don't come painted... I guess I would most likely go for the aftermarket ones. I've seen the $289 version but are there any others out there yet?
Oblu, your the first person that has told me that the spolier doesn't looks good. I guess I'll have give it a closer look.
Is abqhudson saying he's against the spolier?

I ordered one for Honey's C300 sport. It does come unpainted but I had the dealership paint it for me. I think it makes the rear of the car look a little nicer.

Still think it looks like an add on that someone stuck on with glue or tape after it was designed.
(Over heard at the designing of the 2008 w204 C class) Hey Hans what do we have in the parts bin we can glue on this to make it look fast? Hmm got some left over lip spoilers from the w203. Well lets stick those on with some tape, no one will be the wiser.

I actually bought an aftermarket lip spoiler.
The photos looked very similar to the OEM C350 spoiler which is why I bought it in the first place, as all of the other aftermarket C-class spoilers look exactly the same. For under $300 painted it was a great price.
The spoiler arrived in a reasonable amount of time and meticulously packaged, but when I opened it it doesn't look like the OEM spoiler. At first I was disappointed. The paintwork is excellent and a perfect match and made of polyurethane (not cheap flimsy fiberglass), and the fit was perfect on my trunk.
I placed the spoiler on my trunk (without sticking it on) to see how it looks and it actually looks very nice.
It is rounder and sticks out further than the OEM spoiler, but it makes the rear end look more substantial and from the side it extends and lifts the trunk lines which helps the rather droopy shape of the rear end (which I think is a weak point of its design). I decided to keep and install the spoiler as I think it looks unique, but still tasteful and a good quality part for the money, since I know most spoilers on the C will probably the OEM ones on the 350C.
I have no problem with the 3M UHB tape used for installation, as I had a M3 replica spoiler stuck on my previous car and it was still firmly in place for 6 years and look quite a bit of effort to get it off when I sold it (but didn't harm the paint at all). Installation is easy. Just clean the surface with rubbing alcohol, position the spoiler in the right place, mark off with masking tape, then peel off the tape backing and carefully apply the spoiler from one side to the other following the masking tape markers. I then use a hairdrier to heat the surface and apply pressure to ensure a good bond. Do not allow the spoiler to become colder than room temperature or wet for the forst 24 hours.
I will post photos this weekend.

Does anyone know if the Carlsson Trunk Spoiler attaches the same way or is a bolt on? Its already kinda pricey and I don't want to pay $400 (or something crazy like that) to install.

The dealer quoted me $950 to order/paint/install the OEM spoiler. I think I'm going to wait and see what kind of options come out down the road and see how people feel about the alternatives. Since I don't have a garage, I will probably wait til the weather gets warmer to install it anyway.

I'm going to be in the minority of those that prefers no-rear spoiler. I admit when the W204 debuted I liked it, told my wife we've got to get one for our car. The more and more I look at our car I find the spoilerless look more elegant, contemporary and perfect. The spoiled cars look good too, but in some way the look somewhat discounts the car IMO.

the spoiler looks nice. thanks for posting pictures! does the spoiler feel solid when you try to wiggle it around? i've never had experience with using the 3M tape system for spoiler install.

I had a lip spoiler on my previous car and it was on there for almost 7 years and it never came loose. When I sold the car, I sold the spoiler separately to someone else and it was hard to take off. Prying it off took a little while.
The 3M VHB tape is commonly used on lip spoilers, badges and some trim in the automotive industry. The only downside is that you have to be extremely precise and careful when applying it because once it is down it is hard to remove -- the tape is extremely sticky. It's best you have an extra hand to help you apply it while you carefully position it.

I love the way the lip looks. I think I've changed my mind again. Maybe the
Carlsson and the Brabus are a little excessive. I like the subtle look of that lip. AOWHUAS- do you mind telling where you got it?

I might prefer it without spoiler. Furthermore, I think MB said it doesn't have a spoiler by default because of the slits on the tail lenses that lets air out, they said they'd get a similar effect with the clean look. Saw this in one of the podcasts they did.
