I think the system installed in the car is pretty good... the smart key is an ingenious system... and in conjunction with the fuel cutoff of the security system... I feel safe that my car wont be taken... rifled through, could happen...

If someone wants your car, they'll take it. Easiest way? Take a flatbed and tow it away...when was the last time you questioned someone towing a car? Very easy to pose as a tow truck driver and take a car. Sure the car has a immobilizer and can't start it without the key but once they've got the car in a warehouse, they've got all the time they need to strip it.

Honestly, there is nothing much to do besides parking in a high traffic area, areas that are generally safe or garage parking where there is security. I wouldn't spend a lot of money on "security" devices, just a waste of money.

If someone wants it, they will get it. But if you spring for Tel Aid, which isn't standard anymore (insert a wtf here), if someone does steal it Tel Aid can use the GPS and locate it, or whats left of it. Having used Tel Aid in the past when it was given free for the first year, my experience with it wasn't a good one. The people on the end of the line are scrambling through computer screens and books trying to answer the simplest of questions, meanwhile eating up your priceless air time. But, if they recover your stolen car, or alert medics when your in an accident I guess its all worth it. (Still wouldn't pay those prices for it though ha ha)

I forgot about LoJack...that is probably your only best bet to getting your car back if it is ever stolen. That is, if the police recover it in time and it is still in one piece. The transponder location is hidden somwhere in the car, even the car owner doesn't know where it is.

Tele-Aid has the GPS tracking feature but pretty easy to kill it by ripping/breaking the antenna off the roof.

All correct about Tele-Aid, standard in my '01 C320 and $880 in the new C-Class. I didn't buy it at that price but the real deal killer was the nearly $300 annual fee, for zero talk time, BTW.

And, I just read someplace that all '08 GM cars will have OnStar (same thing) as standard equipment.

One TeleAid success story: My dentist's assistant's sister's SL500 was stolen from the garage in the night and was located by satellite the following day (after the TeleAid center was notified) parked in a mall south of town, the thieves conversation was monitored by the built in mike, the car then disabled and the police arrived, captured the bad guys and recovered the car undamaged.

The car was stolen because their SUV was in the driveway with the garage door opener clipped to the visor.

Mercedes Benz has enough security devices built in that you don't see any of the models showing up on the most stolen cars list. Although if you leave your car unlocked and unattended things could happen. That's what scares me about the keyless go system, someone mentioned it stays unlocked for five mins after you leave before it locks the doors. A lot of stuff can happen in that five mins if your not around. It is nice to see the C got a real alarm system though, my ML basically has a glorified keyless entry so I was happy the first time I locked my C and it happily chirped twice ha ha.

there's not really a market for stolen MB's. if they really want your exact car, you cant prevent it anyway.

Just put a midget in the back seat and give him a 9mm and your set. You cant leave a attack dog in the back because you might get 2years in jail like vick, but you can easily get away with putting a little person back there and just say he was waiting. Just imagine someone tryin to jump in your car and Bob in the back just pops up and gives him a scare of his life. BTW, Im just kidding!

or by disconecting the battery the Tele-Aid will not work, and LoJack has it's own power supply.

with rental car on your ins policy and gap insurance is your best proteccion.

This is so true. My friend has his range rover stolen twice in the movie parking lot. He finally got fed up and got a G500, still has it and he still goes to the movies....

There is a huge market for stolen MB in china. however, they get their "supplies" from HK or Taiwan.

bottom line, any security device can be compromised. Most of time it just prevents punks from taking it for a joy ride but not professional theives...

Get Bommerang or LoJack. and if they still want to steal the car..nothing much you can do when they put this on container and out to see.

A lot of car get stolen and put in the parking lot overnight to make sure there is no LOJack or Bommerang installed before shipping out via sea lane.
I guess the best thing is to put in the "the club" on the steering wheel and beside , the mercedes benz smart key is pretty good. The thieve need to do a lot of modification just to make the car usable again.

Saks C350
1. Get “Liquid ***” (Very strong stink bomb)
2. Purchase a small thin walled glass vile from any pharmaceutical store.
3. Fill glass vile with “Liquid ***” and jam it at the base of Brake peddle (so it breaks when stepped on)

I guarantee the thief won’t get more than 100 feet and anyone in a one-block radius will notice your car HARD.

Note: If it does break you will need a lot of work and time to get the smell out but you can rest assured you vehicle will not be going anywhere.
